Just 14% of Likely U.S. Voters now say the country is heading in the right direction, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken the week ending Sunday, August 21.
The latest finding shows little change from last week and a month ago, but is down 15 points from a year ago. Since the third week in July, the number of voters who are confident in the nations current course has resembled levels measured in the final months of the Bush administration.
When President Obama assumed office in January 2009, optimism rose to 27% and climbed to the low to mid 30s peaking at 40% -- until May 2009. That figure has steadily declined since.
Seventy-nine percent (79%) of voters say the country is heading down the wrong track, down slightly from last week. From January 2009 until the end of July, voter pessimism had ranged from 57% to 75%.
Most Republicans (93%) and voters not affiliated with either political party (83%) believe the country is heading down the wrong track. Even a majority (63%) of Democrats say the country is heading in the wrong direction.
A majority (53%) of black voters feel the country is heading down the wrong track, a view shared by 83% of white voters and 77% of voters of other ethnicities.
Half (50%) of the Political Class are confident in the nations current course, while 89% of mainstream voters are not.
Voters under the age of 30 are slightly less pessimistic than their elders about the nations current course.

14%?? I figure most of those are either living on entitlements and don’t want the boat rocked or are card carrying communists in love with their savior Baraq.
Looks like there are a lot of very nervous people in the WH. If you are a Rat running for reelection and you start losing the Blacks. You are done.

Americans overwhelmingly believe that the bigger problem with the welfare system in the United States is that there are too many overqualified recipients rather than not enough. Most also think legal immigrants should have to wait at least three years before being eligible for welfare benefits.
While recent housing numbers have been bleak, the number of homeowners who report their home is currently worth more than the amount they still owe on their mortgage is at its highest level since January.
Voters feel stronger than they have in a year that politics in Washington will grow more partisan in the near future.
So, Americans (Those over 30, at least) are coming to firmer grips with eality. Government can't fix a broken step on your front porch properly, much less fix an economy. The only people left believing otherwise are either young or on handouts.
