...Campaign managers know that most of the population will not take the time to do their own independent research on the candidates, preferring to make up their minds after absorbing a myriad of sound bites that they can regurgitate to others....
How many times are we going to hear that Perry wants to secede from the Union? Democrat bomb-throwers think they have him corralled on that one. The fact is, during a rally in Austin, Texas, some attendees were yelling for secession. The governor's response was that he appreciated their frustration with the current administration, but essentially assured them that secession was not a serious proposal....
Another disambiguation being leveled...is the one about the state's favorable unemployment statistics being the result of so many low-paying jobs. There are several ways to dispute that allegation, but I'll begin by saying that I'd rather have a low-paying job than no job at all. Secondly, having lived here for 22 years, after moving from Long Island, New York, I can tell you that the cost of living here is considerably lower.
That's because taxes are lower for the individual and for the entrepreneur who wants to take part in the capitalist system....bombarded by left-wing ideologues who believe in redistribution as the method of managing economic policy.....
Another charge...Perry wanted to force 11- and 12-year-old females to be vaccinated...to prevent cervical cancer caused by the Human Papilloma Virus....What's not often mentioned is that Perry's executive order mandating the vaccine had an opt-out provision that parents could exercise. That matters little to the anti-Perry crowd,.......
As a Sarah Palin fan who has watched that strong woman withstand unparalleled savagery by vicious smear-merchants, I figure, if Perry is presidential timber, he's more than capable of dealing with it too. -- Full article

Any man that can explain why a President Al Gore should replace a President Reagan at the literal peak of of the Cold War, just as Reagan’s efforts are starting to pay off, deserves our attention.
In 1984, Gore successfully ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate, which had been vacated by Republican Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker. He was "unopposed in the Democratic Senatorial primary and won the general election going away," despite the fact that Republican President Ronald Reagan swept Tennessee in his reelection campaign the same year.
Rick Perry worked on Al Gore's Texas bid for votes in the 1988 Democratic Party Primary that Michael Dukakus won.
......."During his time in Congress, [Al] Gore opposed federal funding of abortion, voting in favor of a bill which supported a moment in silence in schools, and voting against a ban on interstate sales of guns. His position shifted later in life after he became Vice President and ran for president in 2000 Source
Gore his wife led the charge on putting warning labels on records back in the 1980s. In fact, Gore had an 84% pro-life record back in the 1980s: http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Al_Gore According to ontheissues.org -- Gore had an 84% anti-abortion voting record and voted pro-life 27 times. Rick Perry started as a Democrat in West Texas (essentially THE only party). He served in the Texas legislature - was known as one of the "pit bulls," conservative members who sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee and bitterly fought spending increases.
Perry changed parties in 1989, joining Phil Gramm and other conservative Texas Democrats, who now had a true ideological party with a burgeoning Texas GOP.
When Perry campaigned for Lt. Gov. [1998], he and his campaign staff were in it to win and his hard-nosed style was against the "friendly" advice and request of GWB [in re-election bid for Texas Gov] and Rove to run easy against Sharp, a popular democrat (and Aggie friend of Perry's from their A&M years together). Rove wanted to broaden Bush's base for his upcoming White House run. Perry told them where to stick their advice, because he knew the voters would vote for Bush for Gov. and then cross back over and vote for Sharp (D) for Lt. Gov, if he just walked through the motions like the Bush-Rove team asked him to do.
Perry won the seat for Lt. Gov. -- the first Republican elected to that office since Reconstruction. Now 13 years later and into his 3rd term as Texas governor, the GOP holds a super majority. So Perry has earned his conservative spurs -- fighting both parties!
[The Bushes and Rove supported Kay Bailey Hutchison's primary challenge against Gov. Perry the 2010 election too]

Rick Perry: Al Gore's gone to Hell
I’d take Rick Perry over B.O. any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. But, he has done and said a surprising number of things that I find... um.. distasteful, if not flat-out wrong.
I can see now, why many in my home state of Texas seem to have conflicted feelings about him. For starters, he’s an Aggie. yuk.. and, not just an Aggie, a “Corp Member”... ie: SUPER-Aggie. Right away, I start to question his judgement. :-)
People today forget... Democrats RULED Texas up until the last 70's. My first Presidential vote was for Reagan in 1980... and, even that year, I voted in the Democrat primary because... I wanted to vote for people I knew in the local elections. Virtually ALL local pols were Dems.
It’s true.

Rick Perry served in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Texas A&M
C-130 Rick Perry: He flew the world before politics .
Perry could count on one hand the number of trips he had taken out of his home state by the time he graduated from Texas A&M University, but everything changed when he joined the Air Force.
Flying C-130s, Perry lived in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He flew in Central and South America, North Africa and all over Europe.
"I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare," Perry said. " ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life."
.....Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force, completed pilot training and flew C-130 tactical airlift in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe until 1977. He left the Air Force with the rank of captain, returned to Texas and went into business farming cotton with his father.
In 1982, Perry married Anita Thigpen, his childhood sweetheart whom he had known since elementary school. They have two children, Griffin and Sydney.

......>>>The heart of the community is Paint Creek School, which was established in 1937 and has an enrollment of about 160, about 50 more than when Perry attended. "No Dream too Tall for a School so Small" is the school motto.<<<<..... Rick Perry's roots in little Paint Creek run deep

Gov. Rick Perry participates in ceremonies at Camp Mabry to redesignate the 49th Armored Division as the 36th Infantry Division. The former 49th Armored Division, which consists of approximately 12,000 soldiers, makes up almost two-thirds of the Texas National Guard. The division's redesignation as the 36th Infantry Division is part of the Texas Army National Guard's transition from a heavy armored force to a more versatile infantry force.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry stands with Texas service members from the 636th Military Intelligence Battalion, 71st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade and the 136th Military Police Battalion on July 20th under the Texas flag he presented to the 636th.
Perry enlisted to run as a democrat operative in 1984, when Reagan was winning 64% of the Texas vote, 4 years later, Perry wanted Al Gore to replace President Reagan.
As a Texan, I was extremely pro-Reagan at the time, but that's just me, I hate to argue with you Perry types when you are trying to pull a switch and rewrite Cold War history (military history, American history, Conservative history, 1980s history, Rick Perry history, Democrat history, Al Gore history, anti-Reagan history, etc, etc, etc.). The 1980s should belong to Reagan, not Al Gore and his bitch, Rick Perry.
No one asks about Perry in the 1970s.
It is the "Reagan Revolution" of the 1980s that people ask about.
Perry has a flip flopping amnesty pushing rino recorded and those facts are facts, now what has he been smeared with. Does his friend algore have some pictures???
Ronald Reagan (began as a New Deal Democrat) served as our Republican U.S. president for 8 years.
Rick Perry (a conservative “pit bull” Democrat until 1989) became the First Texas Republican Lt. Gov. [1998] since Reconstruction and has built a GOP super majority [2010] in Texas.
Rick Perry will also serve as our Republican U.S. president for 8 years.
Let US not forget recent algore heresies 'man made climate change'. Any Christian worth his/her salt knows full well God's promise right after the flood that there would always be four seasons... Genesis 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in His heart, "I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall NOT cease."
When Reagan ran in the first primary in 1980, Mama was the Republican precinct chair for a precinct in Henderson county with a history of 10 registered Republicans. People actually came in the back door to vote and one preacher lost his pulpit when his congregation found out he voted in the Republican Primary.
Perry’s County still voted Dem in 2006.
the only that will survive are the ones that media keeps providing chatter about
You're damned right about that. The Reagan Revolution was so strong, it got practically the entire state if Texas to quit pretending there were things like "conservative Democrats".
It even changed Rick Perry. :-)
It just took him a little longer, because... it's a well-known fact that Aggies are mentally "slow".
hey, hey, hey..the Aggies aren’t all bad. No reason to count him out because of that.
You must be a UT fan...said the Techie.
Thanks for posting that. Most people wouldn’t believe it...but I do. I saw it and lived it.
LOL. I believe that story.
As I remember, during Reagan's 1980 primary, the BIG race where I lived (Brazoria County) was for Sherriff! We were trying to get rid of a guy who had been riding herd on the county for about 30 years. I recall being REALLY conflicted.. I wanted to vote for Reagan, but.. the other race was just more important to ME.
I was VERY PROUD to vote for RR in the general.
