Last Monday, August 22, 2011, we lost a couple of good ones buckaroos. So, tonight is a split "Say Goodbye To A Legend" Jukebox. Lyricist Jerome "Jerry" Leiber, born April 25, 1933, was one half of one of the most prolific and beloved songwriting teams of all time. With his partner, composer Mike Stoller, they populated the catalogs of some of the greatest acts in Rock'n'roll and popular music. Tonight I'll feature many of them. We also lost Nickolas Ashford (born May 4, 1941) to throat cancer. Nick Ashford and his partner Valerie Simpson wrote hits for scores of Soul and R&B artists as well as gaining fame as a singing duo and as producers. Both Leiber & Stoller and Ashford & Simpson live up to the "Legend" moniker like few other teams outside of Rogers & Hart and Lennon & McCartney. No doubt you'll recognize the vast majority of tonight's selections because that's what made them legends.
