“Come on Irene, oh, I swear on my knees, at this moment, you mean everything!”
I stocked up on Sam Adams Oktoberfest. I may have to go without the main power for a few days and have to rely on a little generator, but it keeps the beer in the fridge cold. That’ll help when the warm weather returns and the cleanup begins.
As for myself, I'm hoping they won't cancel racing in Saratoga on Sunday.
ML/NJ
My weather channel said outer bands have reached the outer banks and there are tornado warnings. NC conditions going downhill.
Anyone from NC have any updates?
Got all the usual stuff, batteries, propane for the grill, the wifes a candle freak, we'll never run out of those, plenty of bottled water and canned food for the two of us and our pets. Bring on the storm!
The last hurricane of any note around here was Gloria in '85 although, as had been said, we get Nor'easters that are just as troublesome. We took of our preparations a couple of days ago to avoid the rush, so we're all set. Even got a new deck of cards. :)
Yes, I’m directly in the path in central CT. Expecting 70 mph wind and a foot of rain. I’m not woried about the rain because I live on a hill, but I have a lot of maple trees.
Car gassed up
Chain saw is working
All stuff from outside has been put in the shed
Got money
Turned up the freezer and fridge
Filled a bunch of 2 liter bottles of water and put them in the freezer
Got charcoal and lighter fluid (for after the storm)
Lot of bread and peanut butter, wine, chips and salsa
Got batteries and candles
I’ll fill up the bathtub tommorrow
I might tape the windows tommorrow - I don’t think I have to board them up
I evacuated and moved to Florida, no winds here.
I have a house in CT — don’t live there but I know it’s been getting rained on for 125 years at least. And I’ve never done anything about it so why now?
Made sure my Generator would start, pulled up my boat, put away the trash cans and lawn chairs.
No I didn’t buy Toilet Paper, I keep it on hand all the time.
Here in NJ, I’m laughing at all the hype. I’m prepared for possible power outage. Other than that, I’m just thankful I cancelled tv a long time ago so I’m not subjected to the over-the-top hype and scare mongering. In Carolina, maybe it’s different. Up here it’s a bunch of nonsense.
From Connecticut and we are right in the Bulls-Eye with Irene.Have done what I can to prepare but if the storm is category 2 or more we will be toast.
Not looking foreward to the Aftermath.Only time will tell how bad things are.
I’m in Manhattan, although not in an area that is prone to flooding. Yesterday, I took a trip to Target and bought some canned goods, bottled water, a flashlight, and a battery-operated radio. Also, I stopped at the liquor store and bought some Bacardi :) . I really don’t think it will be too bad, especially for us in the city.
We live in TriBeCa, right on the edge (but inside) of Flood Zone A. There’s a chance the storm surge plus the high tide might flood my neighborhood.
To my wife’s objections, we bugged out last night to our home in Dutchess County, which is less than 90 miles north of NYC.
I’ve slowly built a post 9/11 compound with food, water and supplies. The few people I have told about my planning think I’m a fringe character. Let’s see if they’re right.
All need a sign that says..
“Theres nothing worth stealing here... thats worth your life”..
Fill up your bathtubs for ‘flush’ water ;o)
We're busy securing lawn furniture, getting laundry done, etc. We're well stocked up with food, batteries and we have full tanks of gas. No generator though (except for this small thing that can keep one lamp going). We'll see how it goes.
Watching game 1 of today's double header at Fenway - Oakland A's @ Boston Red Sox. Game 2 (which should have been Sunday's game) starts at 5pm.
I'm very worried about my sister and brother-in-law on the coast near Providence, Rhode Island. When Irene hits up here unfortunately it will be high tide...
Residents are bracing themselves for the horror of awkward silences & unwanted eye contact. FEMA has advised: Be prepared. Write down possible topics to talk about in advance. Sports, the weather.
Remember, a conversation is basically a series of Facebook updates strung together.
