Cranky CNN commentator Jack Cafferty lit into Republican superstars Sarah Palin (R-FNC), Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Wednesday’s The Situation Room, comparing them to The Three Stooges (sans Shemp), calling Perry’s instant burial of Mitt Romney in the polls “a little scary,” and asking, “When it comes to presidential politics, why does America seem to be allergic to brains?”
Tell us how you really feel, Jack.
Since becoming a national media figure, Jack Cafferty has become known for this kind of Howard Beale-meets-Abe Simpson venting, and last night’s rant was vintage Cafferty. He blasted Bachmann’s promise of $2 gasoline, called Perry and Bachmann “whackjobs,” and derided “former half-term dropout governor of Alaska” Sarah Palin by sarcastically calling her a “Mensa member.”
Cafferty went on to praise candidates like Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Jon Huntsman as examples of “the other end of the intellectual spectrum.”
Part of Cafferty’s critique had to do with the amount of attention being given to “Larry, Curly, and Moe” (as he calls Perry, Bachmann, and Palin), but people like Jon Huntsman have been getting tons of air (especially compared with his poll numbers) for trying to inject some sanity into the proceedings, to little effect. Cafferty can’t hang this on the media, but he’s dead-on when he asks why Americans are “allergic to brains.”
It’s tempting to see this as a strictly conservative problem (their contempt for academia and journalism certainly enabled it), but the media and the Democratic establishment have long played along with the modern American idea that intellect is a political liability. Many would trace the phenomenon to the Al Gore-George W. Bush race, but this “who would you rather drink a beer with?” garbage has been around for as long as I can remember.
The silver lining to Cafferty’s critique is that the American allergy to brains will become a significant asset when the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse arrives.

I'd wager Cafferty doesn't have the balls to say that to anyone's face in person. He knows he'd get his ass whipped. That's your typical liberal, too.

He’s trying to explain his low ratings by blaming the people who are smart enough not to watch him for not being “smart enough.”
Kind of a play on the lefty technique of being peace loving, while backing an ideology that has killed hundreds of millions of innocents, both walking among us, including the defenseless unborn.
He’s also allergic to bicyclists, he seems to have a tendency to run them down and drag them under his car when he’s on a bender (OK only one documented incident, but how many have gone unreported)???;)
I wouldn’t dare say that Jack Cafferty is ignorant. Its just that he knows so much that just isn’t so.
Sadly, for the next fifteen month we are only going to hear about personalities.

I go along with that starting with Chris Matthews then Rachael Maddow, then Sgt. Ed Shultz, then Al Sharpton (welcome to the group) then Krugman, and on and on. Yep, no brains ....
Conservatives need to start addressing this common line of attack with a unified message:
“Yes, yes, we get it: conservatives are stupid. That’s your standard attack. Just like the little kid on the playground, ‘Yeah, well, *you’re stupid*!’ You did it with Reagan. Bush. Palin. Now Perry. We get it. You haven’t grown up past this style of attack. We understand. Now, can we debate the issues?”
What sort of mentality concludes that insulting the electorate will win political allies? The sad truth is it’s a sign of instability, like when Hitler decided he was losing the war because the German people had failed him. Pathetic.

I’ve never seen this Jack Cafferty guy and only know about him from posts on FR. I get the impression he hates everyone. He must be a lefty because they always like to believe that they’re brilliant and anyone who doesn’t agree with their socialist views is a moron. He clearly disdains conservatives (Palin, Perry, Bachmann) which is utterly predictable The bit about Americans being ‘allergic to brains’ is classic leftist condescension writ large. How this jerk has a TV show and sponsors is a miracle. I doubt his opinion carries weight with many voters.
Getting more viewer to watch his pathetic TV show?
Sarah Palin has 6 to 10 times the number of facebook friends as Cafferty has viewers.
