Cops Confiscate Cameras at Ohio Congressman’s Town Hall (Chabot)
Fox News ^ | 8/24/2011 | Kurt Nimmo

Posted on 08/24/2011 6:43:47 PM PDT by GreaterSwiss

A congressman from Ohio had cops grab the cameras of constituents during a town hall meeting. Steve Chabot, a Republican, had cell phones and cameras confiscated in order to “prevent an embarrassing Youtube video from making the rounds,” according to Carlos Miller, who runs a blog documenting efforts by the state to stifle the First Amendment rights of photographers. Police said the cameras were taken “to protect the constituents.” A local television station, however, was allowed to videotape the meeting and the brazen move by Chabot and the cops.

The article appeared in a Gannett publication. They are extremely Leftwing. Their agents are working on Free Republic in this thread.

“Didnt anyone standup and say NO FREAKING WAY”

You’re kidding, right? Don’t you know what happens to folks who don’t do as told at “town hall” meetings?”

Obviously no one in that room was in the mood to be tasered, nor arrested.

I’d rather see him removed from office for violating the Constitutional rights of his constituents. Remember, he took an oath to support the Constitution and he has clearly violated that oath. The sooner we start removing them from office for violating this oath, the sooner they’ll all start taking that oath more seriously. We have to find a path to removing them for this.

If there was ever a time to stand up and be arrested; there couldn't have been a better time than this.

Exactly. And while I expect no better from the typical sheep than to surrender rights on demand, I did expect better from freepers than to defend and excuse the politician and attack his critics here.

He was in charge and he either initiated the action or permitted it.

” I did expect better from freepers than to defend and excuse the politician and attack his critics here. “

Correct. I assumed the protesters were left of center union types that I would probably dislike quite a bit.
But if this guy represents them; they have a right to record every minute of it.

So the congressman has a townhall meeting. Demorats from
all over the city show up for the meeting crowding out his
actual constituents. Demonrat operatives decide to film
their disruption of the meeting for use later against Chabot
or other republicans. Chabot derails their plans by not allowing
private recording equipment to be used and they don't like it.

Either that or they could not read a clearly posted sign or
they thought that it did not apply to them.

A Chabot spokesman said the had the cameras seized “to protect the privacy of constituents” at the event

I believe that the courts have ruled that there is no right or expectation to privacy in public.

Everyone has the right to record, photograph or listen to anything you say or do in public.

If you want to say it or do it privately don’t do it or say it in public. I think that is what the word “public” means.

Come to think of it; this is exactly why the police have no right to confiscate cameras or arrest people who video them making arrest or doing illegal or stupid things under the color of law.

Let me post a comprehensive item here ~ no, I'm not a Palin supporter, nor do I reject her as a candidate.

I think I was the first guy to notice that the pukes claiming to be upset about the video cameras at the "meeting" in Ohio were probably not our folks.

I'm going to analyze the thread and see if I can cross correlate it with other Leftwingtard stuff ~ maybe we can identify another Soros or Holder "truth squad" puke or two.

Now, regarding your boy in Texas ~ it's OK to defend him but it's wrong to question the motives of those of us who find him too soft on illegal aliens to be trusted.

It ain't that way elsewhere ~ maybe in Texas where you got to live with them cheek by jowel, but not here ~ and the last thing we want to see happen is for you to give them a college education so they can move out here and unfairly compete with our kids for the better jobs. They can go back home to Mexico and compete there. We can't!

Apparently it is enforceable. This is becoming a Police state.

And yet nobody seems to care about the bans on cameras at PGA events..........Selective indignation I guess.

Just spent a half hour reading your last 100 posts. In general they are passably Conservative but in particular you are beating some dead horses ~ and this is leading you to pass judgments on people who have done nothing wrong.

Term limits are probably a good idea ~ I favor the ones where at the end we take the politician out of the job and simply "terminate" him or her. Others point out that we would not get quality candidates if we did that. I always respond "So?" ~

Unfortunately in this deal you have a Democrat organization behind the attendees ~ they are called Planned Parenthood ~ the baby killing wing of the DNC! When Chabot screwed up their game plan they had to give up their mini-riot.

Thanks for the clarification. However, you would do well to follow the links to an objective evaluation of Perry’s positions and the most common complaints against him. On the instate tuition thing he required that all illegals who had been in Texas for at least three years and who had graduated from a Texas high school could get instate tuition IF they applied for citizenship. That application would then be processed as are all others.

That is not amnesty and that does not guarantee citizenship. It does, however, smoke some of the illegals out of the underbrush. Is that bad?

With a degree they could be more productive citizens if they become one. If they did not graduate from college or a trade school or whatever, they would still be better qualified, if they were sent back to Mexico, to be productive there. He is not giving them a free ride. They must still pay tuition and with a degree they are less likely to ever be on the dole if they become citizens through the approved process.

I am not sure I like it but it does have some plusses.

Again, you should follow this link and get more insight into the issues about Perry.
