Good result, but no mention of a grand jury.
Yeah, it’s ARK instead of a wimpier state, but it bothers me that in many jurisdictions, a citizen would have to climb a wall of doubt to prove it was justified self defense.

Well, I certainly hope that trooper had his gun in a gun safe and a trigger lock in place before he used it to defend his family and property.

I'm sure if it had been John Q. Citizen that shot the burglar, there would be a lengthy investigation into the appropriateness of his use of deadly force. Any word when the burglar's family will sue?

IMO, not SBC.
The perp broke in to a well-trained armed citizen's home, and got shot. Not the first time it has happened, not the last.
The "State Police" car parked in the driveway should be a clue that the homeowner has had some professional self defense training. Darwin Award nominee?

bummer. I was a K-9 officer and had a retired dog named Helix as a family pet. I was on duty one night while my family was at my in-laws when two kids in the neighborhood decided it was a good time to break into my house. Guess what Helix was still really good at? My dispacher called me to tell me the police in my city needed me to come home and get Helix to let the two bleeding kids out of my hall closet.

where a burglar has been shot deadA non-controversial police shooting. Though if the criminal entered an occupied dwelling wouldn't this be robbery rather than burglary?

also, a cop gets a pass on stuff like this. citizen will be charged when a cop gets let off. It really depends on the state. Texas, Florida, Georgia the citizen won't get too much grief. NY, NJ, MA, MD, IL, RI, DE and the citizen will be in a lot more trouble than the criminal would have.
