Nice thing about gold is a whole lotta value fits in a very small space.
What gold?
gotcha horse s***. You have no idea what I do
Thank you for that post, my relatives all had root cellars so I was familiar with that type of storage. I had heard of people digging out an area to layer them in outside but had never seen that done. I imagine the area has to have good drainage or you would have to make good drainage for your pit to work. Very interesting.
Root cellars were places of wonder to me as a child. Shelves of home canned food, jellies, and sauces...vegetables stored under straw, beans were stored there too since they didn’t dry out so bad. Seeds for future crops were kept there too- in canning jars. A lot of food could be stored in a root cellar, other than root crops.
[The sooner we burn this Mother to the ground the sooner we can rebuild as our Founding Fathers envisioned. :)]
It’s already burning, we need to be smart firefighters and step back and save our own lives now. That’s why I wrote “Going Galt” and also “Surviving Civil War II”. The best way to be a revolutionary right now is to stay calm, stay legal and watch it burn - there isn’t a hell of a lot we can do to stop it for many years even electing Tea Partiers. It’s after the embers are cold that we have a chance to put things right.
I am starting to regularly buy bags of beans and rice from the restaurant supply.
After I dry them in the oven overnight, I vacuum seal one pound quantities in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers.
Voila! The People’s Currency!
I am also partial to .22LR which should always be acceptable for small purchases.
Well, this household will give them lead instead. It's about the same density, so they ought to be satisfied with that. Right?
Humor aside, I will not trade my food, ammo, medicine, or firearms for your gold should the collapse that is being predicted by just about everyone knowledgeable of the economy come to pass.
You betcha! :)
“Its after the embers are cold that we have a chance to put things right.”
Point taken. Locked & loaded, ‘til then. :)
Order 6102 specifically exempted "customary use in industry, profession or art"a provision that covered artists, jewelers, dentists, and sign makers among others. The order further permitted any person to own up to $100 in gold coins ($1,677 if adjusted for inflation as of 2010; a face value equivalent to 5 troy ounces (160 g) of Gold valued at about $7800 as of 2011).
The same paragraph also exempted "gold coins having recognized special value to collectors of rare and unusual coins." This protected gold coin collections from legal seizure and likely melting.
Even if your gold is not confiscated, the obamacare legislation requires the reporting to the IRS of sales of precious metals, beginning 2012. Law is not absolutely clear that it is not already required today, but most assume it is not.
Getting hard to sell any gold for less than $600 (at market value), which would require the filing of a report to the IRS. Good luck finding a grocer or service station willing to accept an ounce of gold in exchange for a few sacks of groceries or a tank of gas (and make change).
As of right now, my only anticipated gold purchases ARE for numismatic purposes. My latest purchases were of silver (Morgan dollars), and I am going to try to swap a 100 oz. bar for dollars before the end of the year. I have an idea that 90% silver coins may develop a common use in trade.
No problem, I have an adequate supply and source of frn's to buy groceries and gas with for the rest of my life. If, at some time, it is not possible to purchase gas or groceries with frn's, the irs will be a non-issue. My concern is not let anything I have be stolen in the meantime.

There seem to be conflicting reports on the web, but all I can say is it works for me.
I grow potatoes in my garden and put some down in the bottom part of my fridge. without apples, they will soon show signs of sprouting.
With an apple in there, no signs of sprouts.
So who knows, I guess??
Thats why I wrote Going Galt
