The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence is a day (or two) late and a few brain cells late to a major gun-related news story. Writing for yesterday’s opposingviews.com, Dennis Henigan excoriated Senator Coburn for joking about carrying a gun on Capitol Hill, referencing the possibility that presidential candidate Rick Perry might have a CCW. Why not let pols pack heat? “It is the same reason that ournational parks are less safe because (due to legislation sponsored by Senator Coburn himself) concealed carry of weapons is now permitted within their borders . . .
It is the reason that our streets, restaurants and coffee houses are less safe in states that have made concealed carry easier. It is the reason that college campuses remain far safer than the gun-saturated communities that surround them, because the gun lobby has been foiled in its efforts to force colleges and universities to allow concealed carry.
Citation? Stats? Facts of any kind? Crickets chirping. I thought not.
Why don’t these nazis put up a sign in front of their homes explaining that they are completely unarmed? Seems like the “safe” thing to do

I suspect it would be a false stmt. Many supposed gun hating liberals are also gun owners. Their problem w/ guns is that you can have them. Since they’re of the Marry Poppins ideology (superior in all ways) its OK for them to have them. You’re another matter completely b/c you’re not a superior-in-all-ways liberal. My FIL was in the Poppins camp and we’d go round and round about gun ownership, CCW and the like. He proved completely impervious to logic always coming home to feelings and suspicions. He was also a gun owner and ‘hunter’ convinced no one would darn take his ‘socially acceptable’ guns. He kept an Army surplus trench gun under his bed gotten in an NRA sale many years past for the express purpose of killing intruders of the black variety. He never saw himself as a gun hater or racist. OTOH I was a gun loving maniac one step distant from being a domestic terrorist and racist. My neighbor shares the same views and chest thumps about how no one will take his guns. Yet he sees no contradiction in voting democrat.
The tenants and ideas of liberalism are myth and mist. Its the ultimate home of hucksters, slave traders, genocidal maniacs and flat earthers.

49 states now have CCW on the books. Seems that Chicago is in the only state that does NOT have a CCW law.
Boy that makes ME want to move there, I hear Chicago is a REAL safe place...... /sarc/

Coburn’s gun carry @ National Parks was merely a Pyrrhic victory, IMO, because he left too much open for the regulation writers that drove a semi-truck right through the intent of the law. Sure, you can have a concealed firearm on you while watching Old Faithful erupt but if you want to visit the snack bar and the restroom, you then have to disarm because we can’t have you carrying around federal employees in federal buildings, you see.
I wouldn’t waste much time beating my chest about that as a great victory for freedom or gun rights.
If the Constitution didn't say it was a no-go, I think the rest of Illinois would tell Chicago to get lost, IMHO.

How many times have we seen, in just the past few weeks, where “civilians” have stepped in and saved lives?
Take that to the next level, where deadly force is involved, and again we find more than a few cases where “civilians” have drawn privately owned and (very) elaborately licensed guns and neutralized much worse trouble that would have ended with one or more deaths of innocents.
It is a given in the statist religion that only the police and military (SWAT teams count as both) are well-trained enough to handle deadly force, so the rest of you rubes should give up your guns and go home.
Uh ... no. Liberty is a wonderful thing. Now if you government soldiers would just ACCEPT the fact that armed civilians are your best allies ...

He didn’t say that in the close quarters of a rope line, with a multitude of people pulling and tugging at him, a gun could easily drop to the ground or be taken from him.

If carrying near a crowd is an issue because of the reason cited, why isn’t it an issue for the secret service to be carrying?

Florida’s safer now that we’ve got conceal carry. When thugs aren’t the only one’s armed ... crime goes down.
