It must have been a big one, we felt it wear I work, in Charleston, WV over three hundred miles away! It was a sizable jolt, the building was shaking pretty good.

I'm in Charleston too but didn't feel anything odd. Anyone notice any earthquake swarms before this?

Gee, A hurricane headed their way and now an earthquake - someone sending a message?

It's the middle of hurricane season and there's a hurricane; shocking.

And the earthquake occured in a known seismic zone:

EARTHQUAKES IN THE CENTRAL VIRGINIA SEISMIC ZONE Central Virginia Seismic Zone Since at least 1774, people in central Virginia have felt small earthquakes and suffered damage from infrequent larger ones. The largest damaging earthquake (magnitude 4.8) in the seismic zone occurred in 1875. Smaller earthquakes that cause little or no damage are felt each year or two. Earthquakes in the central and eastern U.S., although less frequent than in the western U.S., are typically felt over a much broader region. East of the Rockies, an earthquake can be felt over an area as much as ten times larger than a similar magnitude earthquake on the west coast. A magnitude 4.0 eastern U.S. earthquake typically can be felt at many places as far as 100 km (60 mi) from where it occurred, and it infrequently causes damage near its source. A magnitude 5.5 eastern U.S. earthquake usually can be felt as far as 500 km (300 mi) from where it occurred, and sometimes causes damage as far away as 40 km (25 mi).

LOL. Scott Pelley of CBS News just asssured the viewers it was a “mild earthquake”.

That's like a "mild heart attack", ain't no such thing.

Pentagon evacuated after possible earthquake

Do they mean "alleged earthquake"? Are they afraid to offend earthquakes? Maybe they should say they have a "phenomenon of interest"?

This region is not an earthquake zone

It is, actually. It's the largest known quake IN the zone, of course, but people have only lived in the area for 400 years, which is basically no time at all, geologically.

Yeah Northridge was 1995, but we had one a few years back, remember the one alongside the US/Mexico border, I think it was a 7, but since I am in LA it wasn’t so bad..I hope this quake didn’t interrupt Obama’s golf game LOL
