Heres Rupert Wyatt, director of the blockbuster movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes in a recent interview: (The script) had become very different and much more exciting to me. It became less a story of domesticization of a pet and more about an uprising and a Che Guevara story. Heres the Associated Press review of Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Raised much like a human child by a researcher, with help from a veterinarian, Caesar becomes a Che Guevara-style revolutionary, leading a rebellion of apes against their human oppressors. Ground control to Director Wyatt:

I figured the movie would be complete crap. Now I know why.
The movie is entertaining. But there is absolutely no resemblence between Che and Caesar. Che was a cold-blooded killer.
Nice confirmation that I was right to pass on seeing it.
The trailers made it clear the story line would not mesh with the originals.
Che tried to bring revolution to Africa and South America. Remind me how that worked out for him...
The only monkey movie I’ve ever liked was the original “KIng Kong”. It had failed heros, pathos, and a classical story line. Great stuff!
I’m not really clear if he means the Che comparison the way it’s being taken here. The story of a partisan leader rising up and leading the people could be told about many beyond Che. Think of Francis Marion, Boudicca, or even Robin Hood.
Some for good and some not, some on a large scale and some more more modestly. But either way the imbalance of power lends their story a romanticism beyond it’s political core.
I had this nagging feeling that i didn’t want to see this film. Now I’m glad I didn’t!
Is there a scene in the movie were the lead ape lines up thousands of men, women, and children up against a wall and orders them executed?
Also, he wasn't an arrogant, entitled, just-educated-enough-to-be dangerous thug.
I thought the movie was great. I'd have no problem taking my kids to it, if they were a little older.
Wonder if anyone perceived the originals this way?
I loved the movie, it was extremely entertaining! I didn’t catch any resemblance to Che - would recommend the movie to everyone. (Is it bad that I was rooting for the apes at the end?)
All college aged leftists would really fit this description well. They are even more vehement and politically dangerous because they lack, and seek, the power to BE thugs.
It didn’t even mesh with the 2001 version o.O
