ERICA WERNER (AP) - Associated Press EDGARTOWN, Mass. President Barack Obama enjoyed some beach time Sunday with his family on Martha's Vineyard, though not before getting briefed on developments in Libya.
Under sunny skies, Obama, wife Michelle, and daughters Malia and Sasha spent the morning on a private beach in Edgartown. The outing came on the third full day of Obama's 10-day summer vacation and was his first excursion with his full family in tow.
First, though, Obama was briefed by national security aides on developments in Libya, where rebels advanced on Tripoli, threatening Moammar Gadhafi's hold on power. White House aides have been at pains to show Obama is carrying out his duties as president even while on vacation amid international unrest, a shaky economy and high joblessness.

You remember all those AP stories during the Bush years, don’t you? The ones where in the very first paragraph they mentioned the daily briefings he got, before he went out to clear brush in Crawford.

Yup, once Qaddafi’s gone we’re in uncharted territory in Libya but I would bet we’re looking at another Yemen for a post-Qaddafi Libya.

Every time I see the word Edgartown it recalls that was where Edward Kennedy swam to after abandoning Mary Jo Kopechne to her fate. Ten hours later he reported the accident.
The sheriff said had Kennedy run to the nearest house from the bridge and used the phone, Mary Jo would have survived.

I think it’s quite unseemly for President’s to be photographed shirtless. I don’t recall ever having seen images of Presidents Reagan, Bush or W shirtless, but these dumbcrap types have so much trouble keeping from debasing the presidency.
