Rick Perry aims for right balance of firebrand and statesman in GOP race

.....In part because he is the newest entrant, Perry has drawn large crowds this week in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Here in Florence, he was greeted as a heartthrob Friday morning as more than 300 people jammed around tables, stood on booths and craned their necks to see past the hot breakfast buffet at Bazen’s Family Restaurant and take stock of the Texan.

It was one of the more enthusiastic crowds any candidate has assembled this year, and Perry did not disappoint when he tore into Obama.

“The president’s been on a jobs tour,” Perry said. “He had his big ol’ bus — his big ol’ $1.2 million bus, made in Canada. But, anyway, the real issue is our president’s out there and he goes on a jobs tour. This is the president of the United States that has killed more jobs in America than I think any president. . . . The only job he cares about is the one he’s got.”

Perry said his campaign is about “cuttin’ taxes, cuttin’ regulations and cuttin’ litigation.” In one of his biggest applause lines, he said: “I am a pro-business governor, and I don’t make any apologies to anybody about it. I’m going to be a pro-business president, and I won’t make any apologies about it.”

Perry learned this week that what may please his Republican audiences may not go over as well with people tuning in nationwide. Speaking to a ballroom of Iowa Republicans on Sunday night, Perry said: “One of the reasons, one of the powerful reasons, that I’m running for the presidency of the United States is to make sure that every young man and woman who puts on the uniform of this country respects highly the president of the United States.” .....

>>>Texas Gov. Rick Perry has picked up two important endorsements in South Carolina for his 2012 presidential campaign.

Longtime state legislator David Wilkins, who played a big role in George W. Bush’s White House races, says he’s signing onto Perry’s bid. And Harvey Peeler, majority leader in the state Senate, is jumping on the Perry bandwagon, too.

Wilkins, who rose to House speaker before Bush named him ambassador to Canada, and Peeler are the most notable backers to announce their support for a candidate in early primary-voting South Carolina.

Both endorsements came even though U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint of encouraged fellow leading Republicans in South Carolina to hold off for now on making endorsements.<<<

>>>>>Rick Perry picks up big endorsement in South Carolina>>>>COLUMBIA, S.C. — Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry stayed on script during two appearances in Florence Friday morning, attacking President Barack Obama on job creation while touting his own record for job creation as governor of Texas.

In doing so, Perry, governor of Texas, picked up a key endorsement from Florence physician Eddie Floyd, one of the state’s most influential Republican fundraisers. Floyd introduced Perry at Carolinas Hospital Systems as “the next president of the United States.”

......About 500 people crowded into Bazen’s Family Restuarant for Perry’s appearance in Florence.

Another 300 had to wait outside because of fire safety rules. <<<...........

Good to know about 101st. The Palin people have gotten ugly and actually forced people like me to actually check her record out. Doesn't come close to Perry.

Yeah I actually had a freeper tell me taxing the oil companies to pay down the debt was a good thing. Surely he said that because Sarah taxed em in Alaska. Obama has pushed that along with Pelosi for years.

One Freeper commented on "the Undefeated" and she said it had a bad anti Republican anti oil bent to it. She said it actually turned her off to Palin. I think her name was conservativegreatgrandma.

They fail to realize that obami is destroying the country,

That's absolute hogwash! There's not a Freeper on this site who fails to see Obama for who he is.....and what he's doing to this country. Comments like that belong in the sewer.

They are more concerned that someone other than St. Sarah might be the one to wipe FUBO’s stain off the country's leadership.

That's equally hogwash!.. Would you say that you're more concerned that someone other than St. Perry might be the one to wipe Fubo's stain off the country's leadership?

We all are fully aware of who the enemy is.....that goes without saying....and we're all hoping the best of our candidates win....but they are not even all out there running yet and there's more to come as the deadline approaches.

This article should clue folks in on why we cannot get immigration enforcement in TX. Pena & biz lobby tried to pass a “guest-worker program” like they pulled off in Utah with front Repubs in SOMOS REPUBLICANS. Same carnival here in TX. Perry loves to appoint Hispanics into key positions. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PERRY ought to be his nickname. He also indirectly participated in a robo-call campaign to knock off a Bork-type judge on the Tx. Supreme Court (Steve Smith-2002).
Now here is the proof of his love of quotas/”hate crimes” law. It simply reveals his philosophy. Look at his appointments. Is he pushing integrationism or merit?

Check out Post #81.

Endorsements are rolling in, despite a call to stay neutral.

Exactly. Perry and his connection to SOMOS REPUBLICANS I find scary. But I live close enough to Mexico to have had my life and my livelihood effected by the hordes of ILLEGALs that infest this country so I understand that my view, compared to some, may be unique.

Taxing oil in Alaska is not the same as Obama imposing a windfall tax for no reason. Alaskans OWN the natural resource per the state constitution...so the money went not only for governance etc...but straight to the people.

Isn’t that the truth. I said this back to a FReeper when they kept saying Perry was a liberal. I said what does that make Sarah, then?

I never said that....I knew if that RINO was the nominee...I’d vote for him. I wouldn’t stay at home...in fact, as much as I disliked McRino...I made phone calls for his campaign, partly because of Sarah and mostly because I didn’t won’t barry to win.

She may even — GASP — endorse him.

If Sara stays out and endorses Perry the primaries are (barring a big gaff) practically over.

It’s more fun to watch the desperation among the Palin Cult around here.

The obligatory Psycho-Freep conflict-of-interest disclaimer:

"Just for the record, I happen to be one of those “Blood Sucking Takers who helped pioneer the Prudhoe Bay Oilfield for Atlantic Richfield and Sohio. We braved 130 Below zero wind chills for decades, to produce that badly needed oil for America....Palin’s ignorant, punitive and Populist attack on that established effort, nearly put a halt to everything good we worked so hard to create."

Really? Is that why? Huh. Did Thaddeus McCotter attract large crowds when he entered the race.

Yeah. Didn't think so.
