Panicked Dems in Turner 'mail'strom [as race between Rep. Turner and Dem. David Weprin tightens]

Nervous state Democrats are flooding voters with mailings blasting Republican candidate Bob Turner in the hotly contested 9th Congressional District, upping the ante in the closer-than-expected race to succeed disgraced ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner.

With President Obama's standing in the polls in free fall, the state Democratic Committee's mailings to Queens and Brooklyn residents accuse Turner of being a "Tea Party extremist" who wants to dismantle Social Security and Medicare.

Turner struck back with a "robo-call" from former Mayor Ed Koch yesterday, slamming Democratic rival David Weprin for lying to scare senior citizens.

"Weprin should be ashamed of himself," Koch said.

With less than a month to go before the Sept. 13 special election, both sides are turning up the rhetoric after an Aug. 11 Siena College poll found businessman Turner within six points of state Assemblyman Weprin in a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans three to one.

After the poll, Democratic leaders vowed they would mobilize their forces to retain the seat, which was once held by US Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

NY, just like my state (Illinois) is a lost cause. Full of libtards that will NEVER wake up.

The race is effectively Queens versus Brooklyn with the deciding factor being the Orthodox Jewish Community in the part of the district closest to Queens. John Liu (D/Communist), the new NYC Comptroller, has a strong get out the vote organization that can bus his ethnic Chinese allies to the polls by the hundreds. The Brooklyn part of the district is populated by ex-residents of the USSR who are quite fearful of the government overreach they are witnessing — too many reminders of a place long ago and far away. As usual, this type of election will have low turnout percentages, so organization is important. One wag said that each vote in this special election is effectively worth four. That is, the effort expended to get one fellow to vote Turner would normally be spent to get four folks to vote for Turner. In that sense, money to fund phone banks as well as volunteers to knock-on doors are four times as effective as usual. A Turner win in the Blue Capital of the Blue Nation would be quite a prize.
