Cuomo & Christie sign off on $1.50 Port Authority toll hikes (Kills chance of Pres/VP)
NY Post ^ | 8/18/11 | JENNIFER FERMINO

Posted on 08/18/2011 4:23:37 PM PDT by GreaterSwiss

Gov. Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have signed off on $1.50 toll hikes for all Port Authority crossings that’ll go into effect next month, sources said.

The final fare hikes are far lower than the ones the Port Authority rolled out last month, which called for a $4 increase on most crossings and were met with widespread disgust by politicians and the public.

Christie and Cuomo are also calling for an audit of the agency.

The new $1.50 hikes will apply to cash and EZ-Pass customers on all the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels.

Cash payers will also be hit with another $.50 cent surcharges.

Under the new plan, a cash diver would typically pay $10 coming into Manhattan on a Port Authority crossing, up from the current $8.

The PATH train fares will also increase, up to $2.00 from $1.75.

The old plan called for PATH hikes up to $2.75, more than the cost of the subway.

Keep fees and taxes local. If you do not like it move. And it is time for NY and NJ to get their snouts out of the federal feeding trough...

From last year, what Andy's trying to pay for....

(New York) State put freeze on hiring, then added 51,464 people

Check out the price tag.

And keep in mind that so many people and jobs are fleeing NYS, that we're about to lost 2 House seats.

There was a time when Staten Island was part of New Jersey. So, what happened?

Structures need to command rent or they turn to poop ~ as you saw in Minneapolis not too long ago. The free bridges across the Ohio River at Louisville are and have been a serious problem. They need their own independent funding authority to stay in good shape.

You name the Republican, I've heard why they're the most vile piece of excrement on the planet.

Agreed. Except that Chris Christie REALLY IS A PIECE OF EXCREMENT.

The fact is this: sometimes politicians make bad decisions, unpopular decisions, but NOT ALL OF THEM are blithering idiotic moron RINOs.

Agreed. Except that Chris Christie REALLY IS all of that.

Never again will I vote for anybody or even mildly support anybody who claims Republican credentials but puts social conservative theory into the fringe category while touting fiscal conservatism as the only "real" indicator of electability and standards by which to govern.

This hardly kills his chance at becoming the Pres or VP. Reagan raised taxes, too.

Let’s get real here.

Ronald Reagan was registered as a Democrat voter but he ran for office as a Republican, won as a Republican, and served as a Republican.

That is the ONLY standard that is relevant.

Now regarding people who ran, won and served as Democrats ~ if they now want to run as Republicans, then they are, by definition, RINOs.

If you want to discuss ideology, we have other words ~ and when it comes to specific policies, sometimes it's not entirely clear where a particular policy falls in terms of ideology.

The Democrat position on policies is that if a Republican supports a policy, then they reject it ~ irrespective of ideology. On the other hand, if a policy will raise taxes, reduce personal liberty, or harm somebody (even kill babies), Democrats will always support it even if some Republican also supports it.

At the moment the Republican party has a couple of RINOs ~ an Alabama Senator and a Texas Governor. Otherwise we've pretty much cleared them out. Now, on to ideological purity (which will remove Luger although a test for senility would do that too), and policy consistency. At the moment your TEA Party crowd are the only people demanding that ~ they think we need a consistent policy on financial matters ~ NO NEW TAXES, REDUCE EXISTING TAXES, CUT THE COST OF GOVERNMENT, NO NEW PROGRAMS ~ all of which is a hard row to hoe for any politician ~ not just Democrats, RINOs, or whoever.

There is a tendency for politicians to promise NEW INFRASTRUCTURE under one guise or the other because that sort of thing is almost always good news to somebody. High Speed Rail sounded good 20 years ago ~ which is the last time most of our top end politicians studied the matter ~ sometimes its 40 years back. Subsequently we've squeezed the accidents and delays out of air travel in this country but we continue to have rail accidents (e.g. Metrorail right in WashDC). We are on the verge of almost eliminating accidents with motor vehicles thanks to automated control modules ~ give that 5 years to start, 10 years for full implementation. This will creep up on us like CLEAR COAT and 20 year auto finish!

As she should. Most Americans, and I dare say most of us conservatives are not going to piss away a candidate because they raised a usage tax. In fact, I’m far more supportive of these types of taxes than laying them at the feet of everyone to pay for.

I’d vote for CC in a heartbeat over Bachman, Palin, etc. Wouldn’t think twice about it. He’s a no-nonsense guy, tough law and order, takes on the unions, etc, etc. What is there not to love?

Your post may take the cake as the worst post of the week here. On many levels!

I could care less if he is fat, short, bald, tall, whatever. Who gives a crap. Does he have a medical condition that puts him in that position? Some people can’t overcome those things. I’m interested in his mind, his ideas, his leadership.

I’d take him over ANY of the current bunch we have as nominees for the GOP. He’s the one guy that Obama is scared shitless of.

CC is against Gay Marriage and said his state won’t do what NY did, so I don’t understand your post at all.

Gov. Chris Christie’s Ties to Radical Islam: Deal-breaker

By Daniel Greenfield, Sultan Knish

New Jersey, the Garden State, has just taken its first step toward becoming the Sharia State, with Governor Christie’s nomination of Sohail Mohammed, an attorney to detained terrorist suspects, to a Superior Court judgeship in Passaic County. The Sohail nomination continues Christie’s unfortunate pandering to the American Muslim Union and the Islamic Center of Passaic County.

Deal-breaker for me!

NO...Jersey does not need Gay Marriage...they did away with marriage and short circuited it to civil unions...which is fine...let the individual churches decide who is married and who is not....

he is better for NJ than what they had.... and would be a better governor in NY if he lived here....but he is NO conservative...here is part of and interesting piece:

He's pro-life, at least on paper, but he's still hyperbolically anti-gun. And he bandies about the ‘comprehensive immigration reform’ nonsense a little too easily for my taste. The critics of his local policies have been constant and a little wacky, which has actually helped him be seen as a lucid Conservative from a blue state. But in the end, he's still from a deeply blue state where the citizens are thought of more as subjects than elsewhere in the country. (Remember, this is a place where 7 of 11 jurors polled think Jimmy Carter is America's greatest Ex-President.)

He may not be the purely establishment Republican I feared he would, but he's no conservative when measured on the national scale. And when it comes time for him to run nationally, that's the field he'll be playing on. He's got plenty of charisma - no doubt. And he's basically smart. He's won national acclaim by looking like a real conservative, but listening to him lately, it looks like he hasn't learned anything from that.
