but there is no toll leaving, so these are round trip fees...
True.
Perhaps. But people outside of NY and NJ ARE going to point to this as part of his resume. Same way people outside of Massachusetts point to Romneycare in criticism of Romney.
I have no problem with this. If you do, then just don’t go to New York City. The place is a leftist sh!t-hole anyway, so who cares if they raise the toll to $1,000 per car?
While I'm sure people in the area are upset...
and while I'm not supporting Christie (and certainly not Cuomo) for president...
I very seriously doubt most of the country will care about a toll road increase.
These crossings don't just maintain themselves, ya know.
Folks, this is the kind of thing Hussein WANTS US TO DO: hate the men and women who will lead the fight against him.
In the past two or three days, here on FR, I have seen people spew naked vitriol against: Rick Perry, Chris Christie, Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, etc. etc. etc.
You name the Republican, I've heard why they're the most vile piece of excrement on the planet.
NONE of them are Jesus Christ. The fact is this: sometimes politicians make bad decisions, unpopular decisions, but NOT ALL OF THEM are blithering idiotic moron RINOs.
Here is an article from 1974, describing then-Governor Ronald Reagan's desire to limit taxes, even though he had to increase state spending in California:
Look, the media hated Reagan...and they hate Christie. They hate Perry. Hell, they DESPISE Bachmann. They hate 95% of all Republicans. And 99% of the media are DEMOCRATS who cover for Hussein.
We need not encourage them by joining in the "we hate them too!" chorus.
Our goal MUST be to destroy Hussein's socialism at the ballot box.
We don't do that by pissing ALL OVER every Republican leader who comes along, even if they screw the pooch once in a while. And since when is increasing ANY fee in his or her own state an unforgivable sin anyway?
I dunno, just seems to me there is a whole lotta HATE going on here directed in the wrong direction. I'd prefer to fire my rhetorical and financial guns against Hussein's much more dangerous philosophy.
The rule of thumb for this fly-over country bumpkin is “Don’t visit New York/New Jersey.”
What a rip off...
Clear thinking and simple reason. Get off this thread now!
bump
I live here. ost of the workers for the MTA are grossly overpaid and don’t do a damn thing. this is pure theft.
This is a political kabuki dance that is done commonly in the Democratic Peoples Republic of NY/NJ.
The union/overtime/graft and waste loving political body Port Authority threatens to raise tolls by a gazillion dollars. The Governor rides to the rescue on a white horse and cuts the increase 80% and saves the people a kajillion dollars.
He/she is a hero!!!!
Do you know how much it cost to build and maintain that road?
Probably not which makes you a reactionary. Roads do cost something and if you use them then you have to pay for them.
You can’t be so against taxes that you let everything fall apart.

Tolls are the cost of using an expensive piece of infrastructure.
Grossly overinflated tolls are the cost of having a government monstrosity like the Port Authority running the tolls on an expensive piece of infrastructure.
Considering that Christie was about 110% unlikely to be able to privatize the Port Authority - or even just the river crossings - this is probably the best compromise he could work out.
Those with weak stomaches, or the inability to tell the difference between what can be compromised on and what cannot, should not watch, or involve themselves in, the political process.
After this $15. Imagine living in SI where it’s $25-30 ROUND TRIP..
Oh Nj Turnpike tolls went up 22% this year too.
The Port Authority collects $3.5 Billion in tolls now - in addition it is borrowing $2.5 billion more. Virtually all of that money is going to projects such as the Freedom Tower which have NOTHING to do with bridges and tunnels.
Why should I subsidize something unrelated?
Repeat: The tolls are not going to the roads and bridges..
Huh? Christie is raising tolls to $15 each way without cutting any part of the budget and I shouldn’t speak out against him?
You need to call them when they make a bad decision!
Besides Christie is not my leader, he is an elected official hired by the voters to represent them.
