Today on his radio show, [Glenn] Beck let loose with a torrent of anger and frustration at an issue he described as having been going on for a few weeks now. Before he began, Beck said he would post what he was going to say online, thus forever disproving anyone who thought he was a shill for the Republican Party.
Considering the amount of venom he then let out towards the GOP establishment, he can consider his point made.
It all started with a conversation with Rep. Joe Walsh who described sadly the fact that House Speaker Boehners office had denied his and other congressmens requests to attend Beck Israel rally in an official capacity as a fact-finding mission. Beck maintained his composure during the call with Walsh, offering the Illinois Congressman a free GBTV membership to watch from there. However, you could hear just how frustrated he was with the whole situation as he wondered allowed if Boehner wasnt just punishing Tea Party Republicans for not voting for his debt plan.
Then, once Walsh was off the line, Beck really got into it:
Speaker Boehner, you should be ashamed of yourself. The Republican Party should be ashamed of themselves. They dont have to attend my event. Let them come to our biggest ally and our only friend in the Middle East in their hour of need. They dont have to attend my event! In fact, Ill ban them. Does that make you happy? Let Congress come here! You should be ashamed of yourself for playing politics. Thats what it is, Boehner, and you know it. The Republican Party sickens me.

Yup. He mentioned it today, yes. And a couple of other times. It was over a year ago that there was a security incident involving his family. I happened to be able to listen to that radio broadcast about his family. That was about the time he changed from being almost goofy funny to getting seriously into the present Administration’s face. And certain Republicans, too.
I think Beck has also stated that the venue stays as planned.
Beck’s over.
That's exactly what it sounds like. He probably wanted a big turnout for his rally and, absent congress critters attending on the tax payers dime, perhaps didn't get it. Boehner sounds like he made the correct decision here.”
Exactly! Boehner sold us out with the super-committee and Beck gets upset that Boehner isn't going to have taxpayers fund Congress Critters for another free vacation.
I think there is plenty to get upset about with Boehner, but helping Beck have a successful Israel trip with taxpayer's money is not one of them. If it's a success, fine, but Beck seems to think he is some kind of prophet who we must follow. No thanks.
I loved some of Beck's shows on historical events, but he lost me when he started preaching and telling us what to do and think.
It’s so much more fun to speculate wildly.
Bttt
It’s the ‘official’ and ‘fact-finding’ qualifiers that required the request, and resulted in the denial. In this instance, I think Boehner is right.
Certainly, Beck would have no problem funding their trip, tho again House rules might preclude a ‘gift’ of the airfare and expenses, especially to an overseas locale.
"...the fact that House Speaker Boehners office had denied his and other congressmens requests to attend Beck Israel rally in an official capacity as a fact-finding mission..."
I did read the article. It is still not clear to me that attending "...in an official capacity as a fact-finding mission..." means paid in full by the serfs. But I'll take your word for it.
That being the case and someone else pointing out to me that it also means the serfs have to pay for the junket does change things abit. I guess it would have been too difficult for the writer to be a little more specific. Then again I've had my head stuck in code all day and not much in real life makes sense right now. We do not live in a 0 1 world.
It's an awful show. I tried it a couple of days, but couldn't stand it. Now I watch the financial program.....or look for a movie.
PS - do you know for sure that he was fired? If so, please direct me to the source. If that were the case, only reason I could possibly think of is that Van Jones was successful with his hit-job campaign and threatened boycott of GB’s advertisers. I had read in several places that although his ratings were still great, a fairly significant number of his sponsors had bailed for the reason above, and networks live by ad dollars as much as ratings. Usually, the two go hand in hand, but Van Jones had sworn revenge and he knew how to make it hurt. He’s really vile, but then, so are most of BHO’s buddies.
Nobody has to request jack chit from Tammy Faye for anything they do. Congressmen/women are only anwerable to their state constituiencies. Get real!. Who in their right mind would be afraid of a guy who is usually out in front of the cameras sniffing in his hanky that the Democrats have effed him.?
Hope you have a better day tomorrow (or soon) !!
“Well then they can go unofficially then.
I dont fell comfortable with congresspeople going to rallies in foreign nations under official auspicious even if it is a good cause.”
Yes, there’s a danger element. But they’re free to go where they wish, unofficially. And before we rip Boehner, did it occur to anyone that maybe he didn’t think it was a good idea right now for them spend the taxpayers’ money on such a trip? To be sure, there’d be numerous liberals (and MSM) who’d raise a huge public stink about that, for a myriad of reasons. People want to see more austerity from politicians and, whether we like it or not, a heck of a lot of them would be really po’d at paying for politicians to go halfway around the world to a Glenn Beck rally.
I love Glenn Beck, but just thought I’d offer a different viewpoint on the subject.
“I am kinda curious about what kind of ratings The 5 is getting.”
Hi, CC - wondered if you’d be on this thread! You know, I was just talking with someone today about that - I kinda think the Five may be getting surprisingly good ratings and that they might keep it around. The chemistry seems good between the guys and they all seem to have fun doing it. No one can measure up to Glenn, so having several smart but disparate people on is better than devoting a whole show to any one, which is far riskier. I think the show moves really fast since they cover such a wide range of topics. (I sure am glad that Geraldo’s not been on it, as was originally announced. Wonder if he’s even still at FNC.)
What do you think of it?
Mediaite just loved putting this story together, I’m sure. They hate Glenn AND the Republicans, so they really got a two-fer this time. Jerks.
Nancy Boehner.
“What facts are they going to find out?
Hey, Id like to go to Becks rally in Israel, I love Israel, but nobody is going to pay for me to go.
Boehners right on this one, sorry!”
I have to agree with you, from the standpoint of spending taxpayers’ money, which would be considerable, at a time when most people are hurting.
Okay, since you don’t watch it, just disregard my previous question :-)))))))))
Have you ever watched Greg Gutfeld or Red Eye (it’s on really late!)? He’s sort of the “ramrod” of the 5.
Roger that. Good call.
Glenn is wrong on this one.
Congresscritters make 174K a year. They can most certainly pay their own way for a change.
If any of these Congresscritters really cared, they would pay their own way.
Glenn is slipping....
“beckel is a moron and proves it daily, he is just there for comic relief.”
He plays up the crabby, sarcastic shtick (being the token liberal), comparing himself to Rodney Dangerfield, they all have fun mocking him, and in reality, everyone has a good time (maybe Beckel most of all - he’s said he loves doing the show).
I’ve actually seen him show decency sometimes - he apologized for going too far disparaging the teaparty, he’s not only candid about his life and faults, being a recovering alcoholic - he does a tremendous amount of work with AA, - he’s quite open about being a Christian, reading the Bible and praying (yes, really!). And every once in awhile, he’ll actually agree with conservative panelists when someone from his side goes too far or is very out of line. Today, he chimed in with the others in saying Ron Paul’s camp should be ashamed of themselves for the nasty hit piece against Rick Perry.
Guess what I’m saying is that even though he’s often the obnoxious liberal, he has some good qualities and is, I think, a decent person. He and Hannity are personal friends for years now. His brother (a very good tv and movie actor) is occasionally on with him, debating on Sean, and he’s as conservative as Bob is liberal. It’s pretty funny to watch.
