Jose Guerena was killed by a Pima County SWAT team back in May. His wife, Vanessa, and 4-year-old son were in the home at the time but were fortunately unharmed when police fired dozens of bullets into the home. Guerena himself did not fire on police, but police reported he was holding a rifle when they broke the door down. Follow-up investigations have shown that Guerena was related to people likely involved in criminal activity, but Guerena himself appears to have been on the sidelines.
Now Vanessa Guerena is filing suit against Pima County to the tune of $20 million dollars.
Radley Balko follows up with a good summary of the case, the political fall-out, and the interesting detail that nobody has yet been arrested in the Pima investigations, including Jose Guerenas brother, Alejandro, who appears to have been a much more likely suspect than Jose.

I am no expert that’s for certain. I am also not so stupid that I feel it is OK for law enforcement to go into an innocent Veteran’s home and shoot him multiple times and then leave him lying there for an hour to bleed out.
Now an expert like you probably approves of that. I don’t.
That makes at least six times you used “copsucker”, in I think four posts to me in this thread.
Why don’t you find a homosexual cop you can be happy with?
As for your “definition” of defending the police?
I criticized the police in a post to you a week ago.
You are just too obsessed with projecting your self loathing on me, due to your obvious homosexual cop rage, to notice.
Now that you know your real problem, deal with it.
Was that really necessary?
I’m not up to that kind of torture today. :p
It is not like the SWAT shot him and stood over him preventing medical treatment.
SWAT was forced to shoot at him because he pointed a gun at them, and then they pulled out to the street not knowing how hurt he was or if there was another in there with a gun.
But you are not interested in the factual details, are you?
You should get a job with the Drive-by Media and do Cop Hating hits for them.
Medical members of the SWAT team did not render aid to Guerena, and a medical team from the Drexel Heights Fire District was told to hold off for more than an hour, documents show.

Well, you ARE a copsucker.
Why dont you find a homosexual cop you can be happy with?
Why do you equate the term 'copsucker' with homosexuality? Are you one of them gay people? I explained what the term meant, it has nothing to do with homosexuality. Sorry to disappoint!
Because it took time till they could determine that the shooting was over.
It makes sense to you to send in a medical team otherwise?
Bottom line is, this lawsuit is without merit.
But if you are determined, then send those people your tax check.
Who is stopping you?
You are the one who keeps making the homosexual reference to me. Now you are saying “copsucker” it is not a homosexual reference??
You really ARE in denial.
Stay away from children!
Of course not! Jeez! What kind of sick twisted pervert are you???!?
It was only a matter of posts till you started crying.
Go ahead, let it all out...
But remember, unless you have a human shield - pointing a gun at SWAT is not going to work well for you.
* Copsucker: (noun) 1. A person who will defend the police when it is clear that said police acted in an illegal or brutal manner.
I guess I am the kind that doesn’t delight in chanting “copsucker” over and over like a repressed homosexual who is infatuated with the police.
Copsucker.
Id rather you keep your insane infatuation on me, with your oft repeated homosexual copsucker reference, than to be harassing a person who is a soft touch and actually might be affected by your mental drivel.
Go whine somewhere else brown nose. May the chains rest lightly upon you when they come for you.
I have other things to get done now.
I can babysit you tomorrow, same time.
Sorry to disappoint ya, but I got a thing for women, instead.
The man was shot 60 times.71 bullets were fired.
Not one of those bullets from this mans gun. In fact the police were damned lucky none of them were hit by friendly fire.
After firing at this man for 71 times they left him for an hour to bleed out, before allowing medical attention
Now I don’t care who you are—if you cannot see that these officers were in the wrong , you need more than glasses. Stevie Wonder could see this fact.
This is an obvious case of cops gone wild.
Being obtuse is not an attribute.
Those “cops” did prevent medical attention. That is a fact.
As to your other hand wringing comment, the so called “concern” for the safety of “cops”, they would have had that house cleared in less than 5 minutes.
Any comment on the “cop” reaching over his buddies with his pistol and firing blindly into the home after they were done putting him down? What the hell is that about?
There was absolutely no reason to let that Marine bleed out from his wounds. None.
The “cops” should all be fired and then put on trial for a minimum of manslaughter.
Because that’s what they did, they slaughtered that Marine.
I pray that the family wins this lawsuit and that the “cops” are forced to assume some level of financial and punitive responsibility for their overt and egregious actions that day.
I notice a nice BIG exception for judges [and, presumably, their lackeys].
