GENEVA (Reuters) - Syrian forces have fired on peaceful protestors throughout the country, often at short range and without warning, killing at least 1,900 civilians in what may amount to crimes against humanity, U.N. human rights investigators said on Thursday.

What would we ever do without the wisdom of the UN?

Strongly worded letter to follow.

I’m sure Assad is thinking of the old Stalin retort. The Pope? How many divisions has he got?

As I recall, at one time Syria was on the U.N. Human Rights Counsel. Along with Libya. Which shows how much of a joke the U.N. is.

I prefer a Syrian or former Egyptian style dictatorship over any other possible ME regime.
Even Saddam did more to prevent terrorism than most modern ‘allies’ ever could.
Let them dictators kill as many Al-Qaeda ‘freedom fighters’ and ‘civilians’ they can.

This is easy to understand. Doesn’t “crimes against humanity” kick-in only after you murder 2000 people? If it is 1,999 or fewer slaughtered it is still considered having a bad day in moozlum-land.

...in what may amount to crimes against humanity...

But in the US it's a crime against humanity to execute a mass murderer after 20 years of appeals.

I think "may have" is reasonable. I know the report is Syrian forces have fired on peaceful protesters throughout the country, often at short range and without warning. But really what do we know. "Peaceful protesters" sounds nice but think about protests here that we might know more about. Are Tea Party folks ever described as "peaceful"? Peaceful demonstrations here are usually ones for any garden variety left wing cause that result in fewer than 500 arrests and no more than one or two deaths. Not every government feels it needs to give anarchists a Miranda warning before blowing them away.

What about Holder and Napolitano and their handling of the Fast & Furious (Gunrunner) program?

Looks like a crime was committed there.....

It mostly depends on as victims are viewed to the left.
If you are killing Christians it is ok to them.

They’re going into towns and killing people indiscriminately - shooting people in their homes or dragging them out into the street to shoot them, people with their families loaded up in their car trying to leave town, firing shells from tanks into neighborhoods with no regard for whom it injures or kills, shooting with automatic weapons from gunboats into towns, etc. There have been a number of stories of people being killed at border towns to keep them from crossing the border and telling the world what’s happening.

Please read more before trying to justify inaction by the U.N. Beleive me, they have more access to news of what’s happening there on a daily basis than you or I do, and they’re sitting on their hands.

Does this mean they’re going to be removed from that UN Human Rights committee thing?

And you know this how?

People who report this stuff have agendas. It just doesn't ring true to me. We saw pictures from Iran, and you can be sure they didn't want news about their crackdown flashed around the world on the Internet. Even when you see pictures you need to look at them closely in order not to be hoodwinked as most people were about supposed massacres in Kosovo by the Serbs. (No. I didn't have a dog in that hunt, though now I see I should have been rooting for the Christians.)

Please read more before trying to justify inaction by the U.N.

You will excuse me if I am ALWAYS for inaction by the UN. In fact I would disband the UN if I had such power.

Just who were the people dumping those bodies in the river in that video? Some say it’s the protesters some say it’s the loyalists.

And another thing, how may people have been killed? under 2,000. I wouldn’t call that indiscriminate shooting and shelling. Anyone could kill more than 2,000 in 5 months all by their self if they were doing so indiscriminately. I’m rooting for the downfall of Basher but I don’t think we’re getting anywhere near the truth. Just like Egypt, as Lara Logan found out.

And somehow I don’t think these protesters are going to want to suddenly turn around and make nice with Israel. In fact, one of the reasons they are upset with Assad, is because between him and his late father, they lost the Golan Heights, and never got it back.

I figure all of this is leading up to the big eschotological apex.

We won’t know how many were actually killed until after it’s over. Right now, the estimates from inside the country are over 2,000 (not under) with thousands of people “arrested” and many missing & unaccounted for.

The videos and reports from inside Syria are on the web.
Many are extremely disturbing (hauntingly so) and graphic.
You are free to not believe what you see and hear and read.
