Republican fiscal conservatives are coalescing around a candidate for president and he currently isn't in the race.
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Speaker of the House John Boehner, House Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan have all encouraged House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan to run against Obama, The Weekly Standard reports.
The policy wonk, known for "the Ryan plan" to eliminate the federal debt through dramatic spending cuts and reforms, has to date shown little interest in running.
But the conservative magazine says his wife is "on board" if he decides to enter the race.
Paul Ryan would be a formidable candidate," Bush told reporter Stephen Hayes. "I admire his substance and energy. Win or lose, he would force the race to be about sustained, job-creating economic growth and the real policies that can achieve it.

Rove hates Perry more.
Yeah. Ain’t it shocking. Here we thought people succeeded in politics by being nice
zzzzz....
If you can judge a man by his enemies, looks like Governor Perry goes to the head of the line.
Republican fiscal conservative John Boehner? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA........
Can they spell R-I-N-O?
Here’s my take on this. I’ve voted and campaigned for both Bush I and II. I will NOT ever campaign for another Bush. don’t trust Jeb, don’t trust Boehner for sure and don’t like Rove’s sissy punk attitude about all things Tea Party. Paul Ryan is awesome from our great state of Wisconsin, thank you, but he has plenty of time to run for office.
Rove and Boehner plus the entire GOP elite in DC have ulterior motives. I swear they again would be willing to give the prez race back to Ozippy in order to keep their own little power arena. Something smells here. Perry is OK, but didn’t like that story I saw here on FR about him cozying up with that Muzzie bunch. If he is the nominee I will back him. This is such an important time on the history of our country and we need a REALLY good candidate to pull this off. Not another fiasco like Juan McCain or Bob Dole. Then that person needs to bring this country back from the brink of destructin. But Whom? Ryan should be considered for commerce secretary first. How about getting our Senator Ron Johnson to run for President? Think about that folks.
“You know, I always thought that AT LEAST the Bushes — or GW — was a good guy. But for them to act like bratty little school girls...wow.”
That whole clan is a matriarchy.
“If you can judge a man by his enemies, looks like Governor Perry goes to the head of the line.”
I agree. Perhaps a dynasty buster.
Open Border Jebbie and The Bonehead???
You betcha. he is NOT conservative. He’s a wimp loud and clear.
Also - correction... Paul Ryan for Treasury Secretary. Maybe even Steve Forbes.
Looks like the bankers really don't like Perry at all. My opinion of him is improving daily.
Exactly! These are the statists in the repub party - the “elites” - and they need to just shut up and let us fix things .. because if they win, they will muck everything up just as bad.
They don’t care about the country - all they care about is keeping their foot in the door.
I hope Ryan doesn’t fall for it.

Works for me.
DRey, GW is indeed one of the good guys. And he loves his country.
He also knows Perry well.
Consider that.
Paul Ryan -
Voted for TARP.
Voted for the 2012 Obama slush fund debt increase.
THAT’S what passes for fiscal conservatism these days?
