Authorities are investigating reports from around San Diego County of a strong odor similar to jet fuel.
10News has received dozens of calls from residents who say they smelled what they believe is jet fuel since around 2 p.m.
Callers from Encinitas, Solana Beach, Pacific Beach, Mira Mesa and La Jolla have all reported the odor.
Residents living in inland areas such as North Park, Hillcrest and Rancho Bernardo have said they can smell the odor in their area. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department has confirmed they have received numerous calls regarding the smell.
A public affairs spokesman at MCAS Miramar said the odor can be smelled at the base, but noted that the base's air operations have had not reported any fuel spills or aircraft that had to dump jet fuel in the county area.
An FAA spokesman told 10News they were not aware of any fuel dumping being carried out on Wednesday ...
SDG&E officials confirmed they have technicians in the community trying to determined the source of the smell.

They should live in the Texas panhandle!
I’m at an airport just north of San Diego. I smell jet fuel too.
:)
Beer and popcorn waiting for the massive explosion.
(I’m obviously not in San Diego. Hope they figure it out and it was just a massive fart.)
Don’t light a match!
Mmmmm! Mongo like beans.
Maybe a plane was leaking fuel or had to dump fuel for some reason. This is strange.
That’s just the smell of San Fran rotting away.....
> I thought he was in Mahthas Vinyahd.
No, no, it’s Mahtha’s Vinyid.
Wind from the South? Prolly just the meth labs in Tee-uh-wanna.
Not to worry! That new Mexican drive thru that opened in Carlsbad had a “Buy one - Get two free Bean Burritos” Special! The smell will disapate by Thursday afternoon.
Maybe something seeping at a fault or tied to the impending big one!
Obananator’s bus drive through??
Fuel Air Explosion Dry Run
Sonic booms at 3 a.m., weird lights in the sky, strange smells, it's always Miramar.
My guess is that fuel was dumped over a distance by a jet liner coming in for an emergency landing.
We have been having coastal mist and fog and the planes were landing going East on instrument approaches. Could be atmospherics acting on normal amounts of jet fuel.
We have a daily dose of small yellow specs of jet fuel landing on our cars here in SD. Jet fuel combined with water and particles in the air. I figure if Air Management District studied it..they would probably shut down all jet traffic in SoCal.
