GOP Bigs Push Paul Ryan to Run (Daniels, Jeb Bush, Boehner, Jim Jordan, etc. Want Ryan)
Weekly Standard ^ | 08/17/2011 | Stephen Hayes

As Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan comes to a final decision about running for president, several top national conservatives are encouraging him to join the race. Ryan, who has been seriously but quietly considering a presidential bid for several months, is expected to decide on a run in the next two weeks.

Indiana governor Mitch Daniels hopes he runs. “If there were a Paul Ryan fan club, I'd be a national officer,” Daniels said in a phone interview Wednesday morning.

“I don't think it's a secret that he was strongly encouraging me to try. I've been strongly encouraging him to run as well. He has all the qualities our party needs to be emphasizing in these elections. He can explain—and is willing to explain—in plain English why today's policies are a disaster for the middle class, and he has the smarts to go toe-to-toe with the people who are saying misleading things about the proposals that he’s put out there.”

That’s a view that is likely to matter. Ryan has said that his decision to reconsider a presidential bid came only after Daniels called him to say that he had decided against a run. The two men share a belief that reducing our national debt—and reforming the entitlements that are growing it—must be at the center of the presidential debate in 2012. Ryan told a Milwaukee radio station on Friday that he is unsatisfied with the current Republican field and disappointed the current crop of candidates has not gotten specific with their proposals.

I want Ryan to run, too.

The fact that he doesn’t particularly want the job just makes him more appealing.

If Jeb Bush is pushing for me to run in 2012, I’ve got to be wondering how good a candidate he must think I would be against Obama.

I’m from Wisconsin, I love Paul Ryan. Sorry though this story line is so stupid.

Question is, why do they want him to run?

Some of these people, I don’t respect. So, my warning antennae are deployed.

Conservatives are far more than the 0.5% who would pass muster around here.

If he doesn't want the job, then his heart won't be in the campaign. And reluctant campaigners always lose.

In a nation of 300MM people, .5% is 1.5 million people.

Most FReepers only count themselves, their spouses (maybe), JimRob (for sure), and Sarah Palin (again, maybe) among the true conservatives.

Please Congressman, please? I would very much be in favor of Paul Ryan being on the ticket. Who would be his likely replacement in the Budget Committee? - Hensarling? Who would run for his Congressional seat?

Paul Ryan has the knowledge, the focus, the experience and, above all, the temperament to run and be elected as president. He has stood up to Obama in debate and has been successful.

He is the only candidate that excites me (other than Chris Christie).

I hope that he runs.

RE: Who would be his likely replacement in the Budget Committee?

REP. Connie Mack, co-architect of the PENNY PLAN will be an excellent candidate.

See how he deals with the liberal Brit interviewer, Piers Morgan of CNN here :

I’d be running all right. Running in the opposite direction if I had these rock-solid, ahem, Conservatives (?) recommending me.

With those backers rooting for him, Ryan now gives me pause.

Congressmen/women don’t win the presidency....Ryan has NO executive experience....he’d probably be a great VP...but I think the House needs him.

Yep. And how many votes does it take to elect a president? 60-70 million? I know about 40% of the people claim to be conservative. But I would estimate it really is about 20%.

GOP Bigs Push Paul Ryan to Run

So, the GOP Bigs want to lose in 2012. While Ryan is excellent in budgetary matters, would there be 10% of the electorate, at best, who would understand what he was talking about?

Facts and figures will whistle through between their ears while a promise of "Cash from my stash" will get the votes for the Kenyan Socialist.
