Even after Michele Bachmann’s win in the Iowa straw poll last weekend, Sarah Palin won’t go away. Is she really serious about running for president? As Meghan McCain sees it, not a chance.
It’s the middle of August and we’re in the dog days of a political summer, when the Republican contenders for president are scrambling to figure out how to unseat Obama in 2012. The exaggerated importance placed on last weekend’s Ames straw poll isn’t a surprise. Michele Bachmann probably won’t be our next president, but the intense need for some sort of political news in our nonstop 24-hour cycle is to be expected. What should not be expected, however, is that six months away from the New Hampshire primary in January, the media is still spending a considerable amount of time obsessing over Sarah Palin, a woman who may or may not even be interested in a run for the White House.

Look it up, junior. No one is talking about your handy clip of Hannity. Mine has been discussed on another thread with clarity. Luntz cleaned it up after Hannity asked it with his own question. He asked if SP was a great American. The crowd agreed. There was no mention whose crowd it was—it was fair visitors. Convincing you is on the “To Do” list of no one I know, who has a brain. Wake up. There is need for your hysteria. It’s not like SP is running. She isn’t.
I know Perry, and like any true politician he’ll get serious about the border when it’s politically expedient to do so. I’m not crazy about the guy, he’s a consumate politician with all accompanying baggage that entails. That said, I’m behind him. I wasn’t around for LBJ, but I do know that GHWB and GWB were both especially sensitive to coin a phrase to Texas economic issues. Both presidents were a boon for Texas. Since I’m in Texas, I’m just going to cut through the nonsense and give him my vote for those reasons. I can say now that I’m firmly in Perry’s camp.
And this part is not for you Wardaddy. I’m not insulting your intelligence. I just know that others won’t get it, so to forstall the snarky replies I’m going to explain it to them. Every president has list of connections a mile long. Palin (for example) surely has a ton of them in Alaska. Should she be elected, her inside circle will certainly be more aware or more sensitive if you will about the potential effect of any policy on Alaska. That just can’t be help. Since our guy is running, I’d rather have an inside circle sensitive to the needs of Texas, as opposed to Illinois, Florida or Minnesota. It’s absolutely self-interest.

My personal opinion is that she's holding out for FAILURE of the 'conservatives' in the 2012 election (which will precipitate the Tea Party as an official political party).

As for JimRob, he has made it clear that Obama must be defeated and that Perry would “make an excellent alternative to Obama the Commie”.
Yet, look at how many Palin fanatics on FR are threatening to boycott the general election or write in “Palin” if they don’t get their Palin GOP nomination.

There is a difference between liking and respecting someone and wanting them to run for president. That is what so many fail to recognize.
Earlier, Palin had only gathered less than THIRTY FIVE write in votes at the Straw Poll. This is far more telling than what happened with Hannity.
There is no demand for Palin to run for president and she will be making a mistake if she announces she will run.
The event happened after the Straw Poll, not the State Fair.
Sarah is following Apple’s marketing principle: do it right, and silence is a virtue. Apple doesn’t tell anyone anything about what it’s planning or doing unless they’re an active part of the manufacturing process. Sarah only talks to prospective voters, not to talking heads who hate her anyway. And both announce what they need to announce only when they have to: Apple when releasing products or last-minute legal public filings, Sarah when similar deadlines loom.
Anyone know off hand when the first primary filing deadline is? No point for her to declare earlier than that; better to be out talking to voters.
There’s no candidate that yet wins more than a quarter of Republicans’ support, so of course most early engaged voters in Iowa want someone else for president.
But without having even declared, Palin has polled among the top three for months (as others have come and gone in popularity).
I’m not sure what inspires you to constantly post weak arguments running down Palin and declaring “no demand” for her to run, but the bought votes at the Ames straw poll are a useless waste of candidate money. McCain came in #11 at Ames in 2007.
Gee, maybe that was Barnes and Nobel’s rule since they exist to sell books!!!
