When asked about new numbers that show one in every seven Americans now receiving food stamps from the federal government, Vilsack said thats good news. Food stamps create jobs, Vilsack insisted, and managed to even come up with a new multiplier effect number:

The only way that I could see how increasing the number of people on food stamps creates jobs is for those companies who print food stamps. Many states have gone to issuing food stamp cards, which work like a debit card so their feelings wont get hurt by being singled out as food stamp recipients in the checkout line.

You’re right — that occurred to me as soon as I hit “send”. Maybe then the plastic card printers have increased jobs ;-)

Makes sense to me. The more people on food stamps the better the local butcher does. I used to go in there. But now he’s taken to running my under employed barely making it self out with a sharp stick cause I just go in and stand there with a forlorn look on my face. Interferes with the thriving business he is doing with the people on food stamps who can “AFFORD” those ribeyes.
