DES MOINES Rick Perry, on his first day of extended Iowa campaigning, foreshadowed his coming assault Monday against Mitt Romney and swiped back at the former Massachusetts governor and venture capitalists suggestion that others in the GOP race dont understand the economy.
In back-to-back answers, Perry nodded at the difference between his economic record as Texas governor and Romneys in Massachusetts and then drew a cultural contrast between his background as an Air Force pilot and family farmer and his opponents high finance pedigree.
Its being able to work with your legislature to get the right tax and regulatory and legal system in place and we done that in Texas, Perry said of how he created jobs in his decade-long tenure as governor.
Talking to reporters as he made his way through the state fair here, the Texas governor was even more direct when asked about private business experience something Romney said sets him apart from the Republican field.
Taking a populist shot at his multi-millionaire rival, Perry cited Romneys former employer by name and contrasted that experience with his time helping run his familys cotton farm.
I was in the private sector for thirteen years after I left the Air Force, he said. You know, I wasnt on Wall Street, I wasnt working at Bain Capital, but the principles of the free market they work whether youre in a farm field in Iowa or whether youre on Wall Street.
Hours earlier, Romney, on the trail in Litchfield, N.H., had taken a not-so-subtle jab at Perry.

Listen to this well.
Perry will NEVER be my guy.
You get him nominated, and you get him elected without me.
That quick Reagan humor, like voting for Democrats in the 80s? Really?
Gotta admit that is pretty funny. Real quick too.
I hear ya. Rick Perry proved he was a political opportunist when he became the only Republican governor to endorse pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani for president. Bear in mind, that at the time of Perry's endorsement of Giuliani there was a mass culling of Rudy supporters here at FreeRepublic. Logic dictates that Perry himself would not have been welcome here. Either his supporters have a very short memory or they just dont care how liberal the man is. Conservatives should and do.
Hear this...no one cares if fans of other candidates (mostly coming from Palin fans) want to stomp their feet, hold their breath and cry their lungs out. If your special candidate is so perfect let them win the nomination. If they can’t then I would guess they can’t win the general either.
Wow. THAT’s embarrassing.
Yeah, he’s real good at firing shots at liberals.
If he isn’t busy spouting their lying talking points as he endorses them for president.

B-I-N-G-O. If I want another open borders phony, we can keep that jug-eared jackass already sitting in the White House. BTW, Zero, Perry, Hillary and Slick Willard all share a singular trait in common. Not a one of them ever voted for Reagan.
They’ve been ZOT’ted by JimRob. Did I mention JimRob doesn’t like open borders RINOs ?
I like Giuliani. Wouldn’t like his supreme court nominations, probably, but I like Giuliani.
Rove... *shudders* The fella who always wanted liberal RINO establishment asshats to populate Congress.
I was very disappointed to see Cain disavow his strong stance against the Mohammadanism political death cult. I had him as my #2 choice after Palin. My worry with Bachmann had more to do with her not having had executive experience and the fact that we haven’t nominated a House member for President since Garfield in 1880 (and Garfield was Senator-elect by the time he was the nominee). Personally I think it’s probably time we had a strong woman President in the style of Thatcher in the UK. So many of our male Republicans lack balls.
Is this the part where I start shaking?
So I guess you are now in charge of handing out the conservative membership cards ?
He grew up in rural Texas. It comes with a thick accent. He’s smart like you wouldn’t believe. I’m sorry you dislike Texans so much. We’re actually pretty cool.
Exactly. I reminded the Captain Gardasil groupies that Perry would’ve been ZOT’ted for his support of Giuliani in ‘07/’08 had he been a FReeper. One can always allow for a mistake or disagreement with a given candidate (I supported Fred Thompson, but even he wasn’t right every time), but when they consistently take wrong stances and send up red flags — and now have their minions out lying about or rationalizing his stances and actions, that’s a bridge too far to cross. These guys are already behaving like the Slick Willard disciples, if that isn’t enough reason to dislike him.
I’m just saying don’t get on the wrong side of JimRob or you’ll ride the white lightning. ;-D
What is more embarassing is for someone to trash a good candidate in the hope and prayer that “their” dream candidate actually runs. Get a grip and come back when your Palin actually enters the race. Until then, stop trashing other candidates.
His college transcripts do not reveal a sharp mind...I also would like to not be embarrassed every time the President opens his mouth.
