I just committed myself 15 mins ago. My first round donation is done. Was always looking for the winnable conservative candidate with extensive executive experience. Between Romney and Perry, choice is clear. Only other possible entrant is Palin and she interested me as a reform minded GOP Governor who was a VP candidate. While she may enter the race and be more to the right of Perry, I am not looking for the "right most" candidate.
Thank you for the clarification.
I think you are all too tough on Perry re immigration. Good grief, it’s the Fed’s responsibility and they are doing nothing but suing states that are trying to deal with the problems. I live in New Mexico which is much like Texas except Hispanics outnumber Anglos and Native Americans here. We would not have millions of illegals here if Americans were not giving them jobs and the US government weren’t giving them handouts.
We need to secure our border, give documentation to however many people we need and have some path to citizenship for people who have been here for a long time and have American children. It should not be chain migration and anyone overstaying their Visa should be permanently barred from every returning to the US. I am all for a change that makes children born to foreigners citizens of the parent country. We must be tough but reasonable and we must do it soon or we will have another 12 million. One exception, California is lost to us. I have no idea how you get a handle on the millions of illegals in that one state which Victor Davis Hanson calls Mexifornia.
Going for a 3rd Party is the same as a vote for Obama. If nothing else, think of your fellow citizens without jobs. Rick Perry has real results in smaller government, low taxes and jobs.
I don’t remember that being said here until we were stuck with McCain as our nominee. And while supporting him didn’t win the election, I think it’s clear that if nobody here had supported him, Obama would definitely have won the election.
THere certainly was no possible 3rd-party option.

‘What are the visiting hours?’
That was so funny I thought I wrote it.
Didn’t we do pretty much this eleven years ago?
Umm, in 02 and 10 Perry got 58% and 55%. In 06, in a 4 candidate race, he got 39%.
Im not sure where you are getting your numbers.
I am astounded that those against a Third Party are for just more of the same GOP. Yeah. That’s REALLY done well for us. We finally get a little power in the House and now we are supposed to cave to the demands of the GOP “Leadership”? Fine. You do so. I am not.
That's nice...so does New Hampshire. In fact; NH doesn't have a sales tax or income tax, and our unemployment rate is HALF that of Texas. Having said that; you don't want ANY of the politicians in this state anywhere near the reins of power. Telling people to "go eat it" is NOT going to endear people to YOUR candidate. They will stay home, just like they did in 2008.
Sir, I am absolutely appreciative of your sentiment. However, I say that 2012 election will decide the fate of Obamacare and deficit spending. If we entrench entitlements of that kind by letting Obama win, I am afraid we will go down the socialist path of Western Europe for good. Let us take the first step to defeat Obama and repeal Obamacare. Then, we can fight for other things.
I would never have picked Romney over Palin. Or Cain. Or Bachmann. Or Pawlenty. Or Newt Gingrich.
Anyway, instead of discussing what we would do if we had to pick Romney, let’s work to make sure Romney is an after-thought.
Or it might be turning a salvageable situation into guaranteed doom. Voting GOP long enough to forstall the worse may turn people on Democratic policies. As Europe falls apart and eats itself alive, the warning bells may be enough to shock America into action.
Hard to say. Interesting point you raise, though.
Really? There were quite a few on my ballot in 2008. So what is the third party option in 2012 that makes it any different than 2008?
Perry? Nope.
Why? One dollar a pack tax increase on cigarettes.
Not only is he worse than Obama (62 cents per pack) he’s worse than Rob Reiner.
I appreciate your comment about the executive experience. However, I don’t put too much stock in “winnable” as I believe Presidential elections are pretty much a referendum on the incumbent or the incumbent party. It doesn’t matter very often who the opponent is unless you have someone like an Eisenhower. So, I don’t think it would matter whether Romney or Palin or Perry or Bachman is the nominee so we might as well get the “best” candidate now and not worry about how “electable” he (or she) is in the general election since the public is really going to just vote for or against Obama without too much consideration as to who the Republican nominee is.
Texas created 40% of the nation’s new jobs. What percent did New Hampshire create?
Perry really brings the trolls out.
perhaps someone could explain why Sarah quit
after having served half her term as Gov.
Keep in mind that people jumped on John Kerry
because he did not finish his contract with the Navy,
even though he had what in my opinion was a
sorta kinda halfway reasonable excuse.
Your post sounds like conspiratorial paulbot stuff.
Perry has a history of not getting along well with the Bush's. In fact he's been feuding with them and Karl Rove for years. The Bush's backed Kay Bailey against Perry in 2010, and Perry (with Palin's help) defeated her in the primary.
