Bachmann: Washington is 'Vile,' 'Corrupt' But Can Join the 'Real World'
Fox News ^ | 08-14-11 | Fox News

Calling Washington "vile and corrupt," Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann said Sunday she won't compromise her "core principles" if elected president, but she would take steps to negotiate "advancements" in the right direction.

Bachmann said those who try to compare today's crop of GOPers to President Ronald Reagan, who did compromise on tax increases, are overlooking history. She said while Reagan agreed to a 3-to-1 deal of spending cuts to tax increases, the outcome turned out very differently.

"It ended up being $3 in tax increases for every dollar in spending cuts. That's the way it works in D.C." she said. "The deal sounds so rosy at the very beginning and usually the cuts are illusory, they're off in future years ... We can beat our chests and be really proud and say, 'oh we're going to cut trillions of dollars but we can't guarantee what future Congresses will do.'

"That's why no one would take that deal on the Fox stage or debate because we all know that they're fake cuts. Essentially they sound good as sound bites but they aren't real," Bachmann said.

Love her or hate her you got to admire her willingness to tell it like it is. DC is vile and corrupt.

Agreed. Not my candidate but I appreciate political courage and backbone when I see it anywhere near the leadership of the GOP.

I wish Bachmann was Speaker.

Very true of a lot of Reagan's mistakes. Had Reagan's amnesty turned out as intended it would have meant a limited number and a secure border. Instead, deals were made and illegal immigration ran rampant with every RINO in the country pointing to "Reagan's Amnesty" as an excuse for not securing the border or dealing with the problem.

Please God - deliver us from Obama, forgive our national sins, and let this woman lead us out of the darkness.

Any knowledge of Machiavelli will absolutely agree with you....Politicians need to be limited to several years of corrupting “power” and lobbying should be seen as bribery.

There is so much in Washington DC which is just simply vile and filthy, and the only way to stay like a “Mr. Smith” is to not have these Ted Kennedy/barney franks who use their positions to entrench their power to a point that they can never be unseated, no matter how corrupt and vile and unconstitutional they are. Even 50 years ago Frank would have been put in prison and we were corrupt then.

Our Republic is no longer—we no longer have “Just Law” since Holmes,Jr. We have unjust laws—legalese—which Solzhenitsyn stated at Harvard in 78—which is every bit as vile as the system with Soviet secret police.

Well!I say Ditto’s to everything Bachman has said about the Criminally Inept Government we have in Washington D.C.Its just to bad we can’t do much about it.Because there are some people I would like to see in Jail.

There have been a lot of Financial improprieties involving the destruction of this country’s economy and someone needs to spend some time in the bighouse.

I like Bachmann, she is not 100% the typical politician; and, she is correct about the vile and corrupt nature of DC.

Jim, that reminds me of a story...

I used to be a TA for a college chemistry class, and had to grade and correct assignments, including labs.

One of the labs had the students taking a solution of something or other, and purifying it in stages to raw crystals of some compound or other.

An intermediate step had the students weigh the beaker with the crystals before they were purified.

One of the blondes in the class put down this step in her lab notebook as follows:

"Weight of vile & crude crystals......xyz grams"

...to which I wrote in red, "Come on, they weren't *that* bad."

Cheers!

She’s amazing. She gives what I thought was one of the worst speeches at the straw poll and winds up walking away with the damned thing....Wrong Paul notwithstanding.

I like listening to her more in interviews than in speeches however.
