Rick Perry says he hopes to earn Tim Pawlenty's endorsement
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 14, 2011 | Maeve Reston

Posted on 08/14/2011 11:55:31 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.......Perry, who served with Pawlenty on the executive council of the Republican Governors Association working to elect more Republican governors across the country, said they had traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan together and "spent a lot of quality personal time."

"He is one of my favorite governors out there, not only because of what a Republican governor did in a pretty blue state, but also in a personal way. He is one of the funniest guys I've ever been around in my life and I just love him," Perry said, adding that they often "joke and poke each other."

Perry said he and Pawlenty spoke by telephone Sunday morning, and the former Minnesota Governor said he was going to go home and rest up, take his daughter off to college and "clear his head a little bit."

On the phone, Perry said he'd told Pawlenty, 'Daggonit… I was looking forward to getting out there and jousting with you.'".........

“Bachmann walks the walk and proved that she can win.”

Now I like Bachmann and I’ve even given her money.

But so far all she has won is the Ames straw poll.

My concern with her is that she is demonizable and also I’m not sure she’s got a good record of working with others.

I don’t even mean the other side, I just mean others.

She, or whoever, is not going to be elected Emperor and whoever it is is not going to be able to go and single-handedly remake washington.

However, we shall see.

Just not Romney, that is my line in the sand.

“And don’t you find it amazing that everybody, including Bachmann, Obama, and now Perry, are trying to imitate Sarah Palin’s bus tour???”

The one that was so clueless and ineffective and proof that she is an entertainer rather than a serious candidate? It is ‘unexpected’, isn’t it?

That would be great.

The bigger the crowds the better.

Obama will be busing in his crowds!

Obama is going to get reelected, that would be infinitely better than having a RINO like Perry in office.

Of course every viable candidate we have is a RINO so lets just give it to the bamster and say goodbye the good 'ol USA.

The one guy who seems to be the most Conservative (Cain) and knows how to get the Government out of the way to let the private sector create jobs is poo pooed because of his lack of foreign contingency plans (never mind he could appoint some one like Bolton to advise him)

Republicans redefine the old saying “stepping on your own d**k” once again.

Unbelievable.

LOL...seriously, who ever we pick is going to get demonized.

It's the ones who DON'T get demonized that we should worry about.

“I get the feeling that Perry is just the RINO plan B in case Romney fails.”

I am still undecided about Perry, but that always had been my fear about him. The GOP nomenklatura probably realizes that Romney is not a sale, and that Perry could be presented as an acceptable compromise candidate. This will be wildly unpopular here, but I feel Rubio is being groomed as the same type.

Times are more corrosive than they were even a few years ago though, and I do not think any stalking horses will hold up under close scrutiny anymore.

Not just that, but he wants the endorsement of those who backed the biggest loser.

Asked what it was about Perry, Gloekler said: “I like the way he talks.”

And that's all he does...talk.

I think you are spot on. Successful politicians typically have loyal staff. But Bachmann is known for rapid staff turnover, and I think this is likely to become an issue and hurt her pretty badly. Especially if some of her former people step up to the mike.

It's not my bus, I was just pointing out the flaw in your logic. Palin was touring the country in the bus I posted long before she was touring in the one you posted.

My money will be going to Cain. I lost all respect for someone who would announce at the particular time the Ames poll was being conducted. ‘Just trying to STEAL the limelight from those who had already declared.

All I know is that we have to get this pos out of office.

We're never going to have the perfect candidate for office on our side (this time around, there isn't one) but a second term for obama means the end of this Country....period.

It is also imperative that we strengthen the House and Senate with more TP members to keep any RINO POTUS in line.

The liberals were supposed to win big in Wisconsin last week. They failed- epically. Bachmann, the most conservative republican with the closest ties to the tea party no less, was supposed to have no chance of winning. She won. She drew first blood. She has the momentum now. You can take away whatever meaning you want from all of this or none at all if you like but I think there’s writing on the wall here. Americans are not rejecting conservatism, they are not buying the liberal spin. The Democrats job just got harder and our chances of creating the kinds of changes that America really needs just improved. Bottom line: this has been a great month for conservatism and a really bad month for liberals. We need to seize the initiative, the momentum and, ultimately, our objective now.
