"As the governor has continued to say, in Texas, we have a shared interest with our counterparts in Mexico to securing the international border between our countries in order to protect our citizens and the legitimate cross border trade and travel that will help bring jobs to each of our economies. Gov. Perry will continue to urge the federal government to secure the international border from the growing threat of drug cartels in northern Mexico."

He is clearly FOR securing the border.

He is promoting the same kind of friendly neighborhood trade with Mexico, as we have with Canada, but clearly makes it all contingent on securing the border.

Maybe against drug cartels, but Perry is clearly in favor of continuing unchecked illegal immigration into this country, as his pathetic record of leadership on this issue demonstrates.

Hell, my pocketbook demonstrates it. You ought to see what illegal aliens have done to the building trades here. An honest American can no longer even make a living in some trades in this state.

“We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, “We don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.” And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers. That’s why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate. Those young minds are a part of a new generation of leaders[;] the doors of higher education must be open to them.”

If Rick Perry said that, then he needs to be defeated. That statement is indefensible.

Yeah, the headline about supporting open borders is misleading. He actually says he wants it so that Mexicans stay home.

But he signed a state DREAM act into law. There is no getting aroud that. He calls young illegals “young Texans.” And while claiming to support a variety of tough state immigration laws, he apparently didn’t really throw his muscle behind them.

He is most likely a leftwinger on immigration, just like Bush was.
