The messed up part about this was the fact that I thought Bert and Ernie were orginally brothers, which would be really sick implications to later say that they were homos living together, I am sorry, but my incest meter applies to homosexuality, too, and yes, I am pretty incestophobic, if such a term exists. Also, I would say that people, myself included weren’t in homosexual relationships with our own roommates, while living single, especially in our academic lives. That’s reality, and that’s also how some things should be realistically portrayed.
Incest is taboo almost universally among humans, and for very good biological/genetic reasons, aside from the moral ones. I think your "phobia" is well-grounded in reality.
Bert and Ernie are different (tall/short, dark/light, etc.) but are best friends. They're a great model for the idea that people who are different can get along. Having them both be male allowed them to be best buds without the assumed hint of romance if one of them had been female -- it's rarer in real human relations for a male and female to just be best buds.
The idea that Bert and Ernie must be homosexual just because they share a room and are best friends is offensive to the vast majority of people who have had same-sex roommates. There could be no greater, clearer demonstration that the homosexual activists will stop at nothing, than this unfortunate petition.
