A roadside bomb killed five American troops in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the U.S. military said, less than a week after American forces suffered their worst single loss of the Afghan war when Taliban insurgents shot down a helicopter.

It’s a fair question. I think we’ve learned many expensive lessons about ideological blindness.
I don’t think that anyone truly knows. We just kill some Taliban and capture and release others. Our ROE are so screwed up that the Taliban can shoot at our troops from behind women and children with impunity. Obastard has already announced that he is cutting the surge troops and going from being marginally undermanned to grossly undermanned.
I am a very big fan of "More Rubble Less Trouble". It saddens me to no end that we send our brave ones to die for no reason.
We could make some progress if Karzai were to have an "accident".
I say turn that he11 hole into glass. How is that for pacifism!
You are wrong.
BTW, does anyone here believe that we really got those behind the attack on Saturday? That was awfully convenient of them to announce. I don’t buy it for a second.
Not one bit. Has to keep poll numbers up with losing that many special ops
Agreed. Too quick and convenient. If Bambi said the sky was blue, I'd have to go outside and check before I believed it.
I’m right there with you. I find myself questioning every single thing that he says.
God bless their families. May the soldiers rest in peace.
Every word he says is a lie, including and and the.
“Does our President even know that we still have troops in Afghanistan?”
Probably not; don’t you remember one of his daughters wearing the peace sign T-shirt?
Way to support the troops!
it's never what they say,it's what they do
Don’t worry, one of zero’s generals will come out this afternoon (heck maybe during Carney’s press conference) and say we killed the terrorists in a “kinetic” strike (liberal speak since we can’t say anything about killing terrorists we have to resort to phrases from High School Physics)
“They should employ the term soldiers. The proper use of the word troops should be to refer to larger groups.”
We have all branches of the service fighting there so “soldiers” isn’t appropriate either. English doesn’t seem to have a generic term except “service members”.
When I write cards & letters to be included in care packages sent by two groups to which I belong, I have to use the salutation “Dear Service Member” (or “Dear Hero”) because I don’t know where or to whom or to which branch the card/letter/package are going.
In a word—oil. I suggest you Google Soviet Union, oil and Afghanistan. Why do you think they were there?
The Mid East is about two things: Oil and Islamoterrorism. If we were energy independent and there was no Muslim terrorism we would not have to be there.
As for Islamoterrorism: Do you really believe that if we abandoned Afghanistan the ragheads would stop coming? If so, tell me which part(s) of the Islamoterrorist mantra do you not believe? The one that declares simply and clearly that we (Islamoterrorists) will convert, enslave and or kill you.
Moreover, oil and the terrorists are interrelated. If we surrender Afghanistan to Al Queda it will use it to step up its attacks on Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Quatar et al. Given our dependence on Middle East oil, do you think that’s a good thing?
To be sure, I too am frustrated beyond words at our political class and its inability to finish this war. Should not have lasted more than a couple of years; and our full military capability should have been brought to bear. Vietnam all over again.
My son’s a career soldier and on his fifth deployment to the Mid East. So far this deployment his unit has lost 5 killed and 8 wounded and the deployment is only half over. Under the present regime in Wash. I believe our soldiers are risking their lives for nothing. That does not change the overall Mid East political dynamics. Running away from Afghanistan will only embolden Islamoterrorism.
I pray that The Usurping Marxist Onada’s defeat by conservatives in 2012 will bring people to Washington with a will to finish this war with overall victory.
Sadly, it is impossible to totally stop suicide and IED attacks. I’m afraid that will be with us for many years.
I ask that question every day. What is our goal? And knowing Obama’s plan is to have secret peace talks with the Taliban makes me think we are losing precious lives for nothing, absolutely nothing. I wonder why republican candidates are not talking about the wars.
