In an Austin interview with Mark Halperin, Rick Perry says he has decided he wants to be president, talks about the advice he got from George W. Bush, and says he would compete against Barack Obama in California.

At least set the framework by educating the leftists or the dumb ones what is really at stake. If they choose the Leftist loser ways again then so be it. Ca will re-elect Obama unless it turns into North Korea and then it becomes a battleground state.
I’m not anti-Perry, but this is the second time I have to admit to second thoughts on an issue with him. I really don’t want someone who is comfortable with the present GOP establishment. I’d rather have someone who makes the GOP elite kick and scream while forcing them to join his position, much like Reagan did.
Second, I'm still not convinced CA is gone. Yep, you cite Fiorina and Whitman, but neither of those were as conservative as Perry. I think that if you even have a shot in CA, quite the opposite from the "conventional wisdom," you have to offer a CLEAR choice and that a more conservative candidate would do better than a moderate. DJ, what do you know about Bush 04 vs. McCain 08---again, with caveats that they weren't entirely similar races?
That was moonbeam Governor Brown....I believe...not sure whether it is legal...
You're like a dog with a favorite chew bone.
“California is LOST to the GOP. Check with moderates Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina.”
Maybe we should run a Conservative GOP instead????? Worked for Reagan!
You’re too kind.
Call that a chew bone if you like, I call it a problem for conservatives looking for a candidate.
The lege voted for it and Brown signed it
The change approved by Brown will occur only if it is adopted by states with a majority of the electoral votes in the country. California is the eighth state to approve the new system.
so for now nothing changes and won’t change in near future. Texas and Florida will not likely agree. NY will. Pa and Ohio? who knows
I thought what had happened was like in some state that voted to split electoral votes based on % each candidate gets
but this is much worse
“they are close personally, and I’d say that’s not particularly comforting to me that he is close with Rove & Co..’
That did it. I am voting for Obama instead (/SARCASM!)
Do you want Obama defeated or don’t you?
I’m not talking about what Perry said.
I’m talking about what you said to me.
I put the link because of the familiar tactic of yours linking Perry and Karl Rove.
That is the chew bone you like gnawing on.
I prefer someone who would actually cut something rather than pretend to do so.
I've done it for the first time twice today on two different threads, pointing out an incorrect talking point of the pro-Perry crowd (you included) who has tried to sell us that there is a rift between Bush/Rove and Perry, a talking point that is destroyed by the very interview you just posted.
I've never said an anti-Perry thing on FR until today (all I said is this new information gives me pause), actually having bought the rift info you and others have given. All I did was point out the obvious from this interview, that this info you've given is not true; methinks you're being a bit thin skinned here, you just can't handle that the relationship between the two camps is close, born out by the interview you posted.
Thats the type of individual that we can get behind. You know to make America proud of itself again. I think America is an exceptional country. I think we have a great story to tell. I think the world needs a strong America both economically and militarily.Talks like Reagan but:
WOOT!
GO PERRY!
I hope he picks Palin as his VP.
That would be a dream ticket.
So what! I voted for McGovern! Texans had been democrats since the days of Reconstruction, and it was only when the democrat party became socialist liberal idiots that conservative Texans switched to the Republican Party. The Al Gore thing is really much ado about nothing. Otherwise, you will have to tell most of the Republicans in Texas that they “are not really conservative because they were previously democrat.” I don’t think you want to go there.
But this is politics, so they've made nice.
Heck, Reagon & GHWB were not exactly chummy and Reagan picked him as running mate. Maybe not the wisest move in the long run, but it makes sense in politics to bury the hatchet, one way or the other.
You are a known quantity.
Rick Perry worked on Al Gore's Texas bid for votes in the 1988 Democratic Party Primary that Michael Dukakus won.
......."During his time in Congress, [Al] Gore opposed federal funding of abortion, voting in favor of a bill which supported a moment in silence in schools, and voting against a ban on interstate sales of guns. His position shifted later in life after he became Vice President and ran for president in 2000 Source
Gore his wife led the charge on putting warning labels on records back in the 1980s. In fact, Gore had an 84% pro-life record back in the 1980s: http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Al_Gore According to ontheissues.org -- Gore had an 84% anti-abortion voting record and voted pro-life 27 times. Evolving Gore
That's not really a great defense btw. Just in case you weren't sure.......
Oh, and since I'm a "known quantity", find one other anti-Perry post I've ever done. Just one.
I'll be waiting.......
