Tom Tancredo: Rick Perry not a true conservative
Politico ^ | 08/11/2011 | Tom Tancredo

On Saturday Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce whether or not he will run for president. Many now believe he will.

Perry is eager to separate himself from his predecessor in the Texas governor’s mansion, George W. Bush — who is unpopular with both tea party Republicans and the American electorate as a whole. But one area where Perry’s positions are virtually identical to Bush is immigration.

When I ran for president in 2008, I tried to pressure the Republican candidates to take a hard line against illegal immigration. For this, Perry called me a racist.

When he first took office as governor in 2001, Perry went to Mexico and bragged about his law that granted “the children of undocumented workers” special in-state tuition at Texas colleges, the first state in the nation to do so.

“The message is simple,” Perry concluded, “educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.” Education is the future, and (echoing Cesar Chavez’s slogan) yes we can.]

Just a few weeks ago, Perry defended his decision to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. He said “to punish these young Texans for their parents’ actions is not what America has always been about.”

Perry opposed Arizona’s tough anti-illegal immigration law SB 1070. “I have concerns,” he explained, “with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas.”

He spoke out last year against using E-Verify to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs as state employees, who get their paychecks from the taxpayers. He insisted it “would not make a hill of beans’ difference.”

Numbers USA, a group that supports immigration control, gives Perry a “D-“ for his positions supporting amnesty, open borders, and opposing border security.

Their attempt at legislation doesn’t mean a hill of beans. There was no mandate in the first place it was propaganda.

I went to public school, so my civics understanding could be a bit lacking. To me, your post sounds like propaganda.

There was no mandate b/c the Gov.'s Executive Order was shot down.

Yes, of course, Gardasil is still available...just not mandated by law for Texas girls going into the 6th grade. No hoops for parents to jump through to opt out either.

Just out of curiosity, did you make your girls get the shots?

The fact that you are so sensitive about criticism of your guy speaks volumes.

Perry is not "my guy". I have some concerns about some of the decisions he has made as well. But I don't see anyone else out there at this time that is the "perfect conservative" either. They all have weaknesses and faults. And I think it is at least possible that Perry could wind up as the eventual nominee, so I'd rather not see him (or any of our other potential nominees) ravaged by our own people. Do we really want to build up so much animus toward a potential nominee that we risk the possibility of our own people staying home if he/she wins the nomination?

The only person that took a stand and bucked the rinos, was and is Bachmann. There is no other conservative candidate running.

“killing our own candidates simply because we don’t agree with them on every issue.
“Secondly, the level of vitriol exhibited on this forum is beginning to resemble DU. Suddently, anyone who disagrees with you is a RINO, a liberal, etc. It’s sad, because we are supposed to be better than that.”
I can oppose a candidate without tearing him down as a person”

Dude, read what you are writing: you demand others not use the terms RINO and liberal in their posts, yet you accuse others of KILLING our own candidates, VITRIOL, tearing people down as a person!

Just wow.

Sir, there was no mandate in his executive order. His ExO put the decision right in the hands of the parents where it should’ve been. All his ExO did was mandate the federally funded agencies to cover it FOR THOSE PARENTS WHO WANTED THEIR CHILDREN TO GET IT!

NO, I knew that the Women in Government had sold a bill of good claiming dead females from cervical cancer, since there’s an easy fix of scraping the cancer cells off the cervex. Rick Perry knew that also. But when the commiecrats and RINOs couldln’t trap him one way, they tried their best to fool Texans with their piece of legislation pretending they had the power to over ride his ExO.

In case you didn’t know it, the feds themselves handed down regulations that said MAKE IT AVAILABLE!

No, I won't stay home and I would vote for the less of two evils if that's what it comes down to. There are some “conservative” planks that I disagree with, but not to the point that I would favor a liberal. True, there are a lot of RINO’s out there and I can't understand why they aren't getting the message. Perhaps it's because 92% of all incumbents get reelected. Let's make that about 20% this time around. Maybe then they'll get the message.

Well, let's just give up then.

I am so against illegal immigration that this stance rules Perry out for me.

A wise and growing choice among Tea Party conservative tax payers it would seem. It has been shown that uncontrolled illegal immigration can be traced back to many of Americas economic and social woes. Close the borders and cut off the welfare gravy train to the illegal immigrant community, now!!

What really happened was that Gov. RINO Goodhair thought he and his good buddy, Toomey, would scratch each others’ backs. Merck, the Gardasil pharm, donated to Perry’s campaign and coincidentally hired his ex-Chief of Staff Toomey as their lobbyist. It was due to the good people of Texas that the deal was squashed. We yelled foul loud enough that our legislature, not Perry, killed the mandantory part. What people are forgetting is that public school nurses are giving the vaccine out for free at school on a voluntary basis. IOW, the tax payers are still paying for it and there’s money being zipping around under the table.

You FRAUD . It never got Implemented ! Who are you astroturfing for ????

Then explain why taxpayers are footing the bill for school nurses to give the shots today. While it may be scaled down, it still smells like implementation to me.

You are not allowed to criticize CFR-Rick on FR.

The RINO police will be coming for you.

Ain't that the ever loving truth. They can get rather downright ugly, nasty and viscous if one doesn't worship at the altar of Rick 'Goodhair' Perry here in these quarters. Watch out and make sure you have a good quality flame retardant suit on as they so love to flame those not worshiping ol' Goodhair.

And Perry, against the wishes of his constituents, did whatever the Feds told him to? (Perry's order was "MANDATE" go read it again) That's what you're selling? Don't we have enough of that BS already?

Bingo, since, that 30 million would grow into 100 million In a New York minute. Sisters aunts, uncles, brothers mothers, grandmother, grand fathers, fathers. Cousins, all on the tax payers dime. Talk about rush to third world status. The Current debt trend of destroying the country in twenty years, would change to five years.

I like her, and I'd vote for her. The most recent Fox News poll of GOP primary voters shows her winning 7%, though. Can she get the nomination and then beat Obama?

Perry is a non starter for me. It’s an easy decision that takes little analytical effort to figure out. The others are wait and see.

Since it was federal money called Medicaid did he have a lot of choice?

Where did he go against the wishes of his constituent? I’m one of his constituents. His ExO didn’t affect me at all! That’s why I think your protests are whacko. It pro’bably didn’t effect you either!

My stance is simple and its the same for all the candidates.

We simply can’t do this anymore. We’re losing our nation to an army of invaders who will guarantee a permanent pro amnesty majority.

“Reagan’s” amnesty doesn’t matter today. If it had turned out as he intended it would have ended with limited numbers and a secure border.

Those who promote little bits of amnesty here and there are a beautiful example of how Joseph Overton’s “window” works. In plain language its incrementalism that is eating our nation.
