"My goofy Sheltie is terrible guard dog, though."

LOLOL! Had one of those myself. He would let ANYBODY into the house, but nobody dared try to leave. LOL!

I have a little Yorkie and last week the Koi pond man came to work on my pond. I left the side gate open for him. My husband, myself and the dog were out back. The man just came walking through and my Yorkie went after him. She thought she was ferocious.

Our previous one was just like redhead's. But our new one, whoa, he is the opposite. He won't even let my kids in the house when they come to visit. He barks at us coming in until he has accurate visuals that it is us.

He is NOT a bark all the time sheltie. But he will bark and growl at all visitors until he is sure they are OK. Even then he is very careful for quite a while. Once he has calmed down, sudden moves by visitors will set him off again, barking and growling. Very protective. He is 20 pounds, but he will go after Sheps if we don't call him off. Otherwise, he is a very calm and happy dog.

Other preparations? Very likely.
