First point, British police haven’t been disarmed - they were never armed in the first place and constantly vote against being armed.

Second point, the British populace were never particularly armed in the first place, especially not in the cities. Historically speaking the only people who have guns in this country for the last 200 years have been farmers

Third point, only certain weapons have been banned. Handguns were banned in 1997 and only 100,000 were destroyed. That means that either a lot of people didn’t hand in their guns, or that only a tiny percentage of handguns were owned in the first place.

Fourth point, shotguns are still legal and i’ve got one.

Fifth point, stop talking nonsense about something you know little about.

Then the mass confiscations of firearms after WWI that I read about is not factual?

Third point, only certain weapons have been banned.

Like perhaps all centerfire rifles and any repeating rimfires and air guns as well? Or did I read that in error too? I've never been there, so I have to rely on what I read.

RE Mitch86:

First Point: I didn’t say “British Police”, I said your police force disarmed YOU. As for voting against being armed, well, right about now, I’ll bet a whole bunch of Brit police are wishing they were.

Second Point: “...the British populace were never particularly armed in the first place.” Sad to hear that. Must be a terrible thing to be disarmed in the face of threats, i.e., Germans sitting on the the other side of the Channel planning to invade.

Third Point:
“Third point, only certain weapons have been banned. Handguns were banned in 1997 and only 100,000 were destroyed. That means that either a lot of people didn’t hand in their guns, or that only a tiny percentage of handguns were owned in the first place.

Again, sad to hear that you guys LET them be banned to begin with, or only a tiny percentage were owned. That’s just great. Really. Stellar.

Fourth Point: “Shotguns are still “legal” and you have one. Good for you, sincerely. I have four. All combat models, with extended mags and bayonet lugs. Can you own those? I also own a nice assortment of modern and vintage firearms, all military pattern. Can you say the same? And I have A couple of Enfield No. 4s and No. 5 jungle carbines too, as matter of fact - are you “allowed” to own those? After all, they ARE British guns, bought and paid for by British taxpayers...

Fifth Point: “Stop talking...” One of the benefits of being an American is a little something called Freedom of Speech. My ancestors put it in a little document that enumerates certain God-given rights. It’s right before the one that says “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Do you have that anywhere in your documents?

RE Scotsman: “Subjects”
Do you still have gun stores over there, that you can walk into and purchase any type of military-pattern semi-automatic firearm? Or does your government forbid you to have them under penalty of law? And do you LET your government forbid you from having them? If you say yes, then I’m wrong. If you say no, then...well, there it is.

We have our issues here with the idiots in our government. But at the end of the day, we have what we have, and it keeps those with bad intentions awake at night worrying how to change that. And that is a GOOD thing - for us.

P.S. Gentlemen, for what it’s worth, I AM truly sad to see what is happening to your country and I wish you well. Not so different from what we have here right now.

Disarmed or never armed, the result is the same. Same for other British subjects. They have lost control, and are at a great disadvantage when endeavoring to effectively defend their lives or property. That's the perception on this side of the pond, and it's not particularly dependent on whose media one is watching.

I'm sure order will be restored soon, hopefully before the entire country has been robbed and looted.

In any event, I'm proud of the citizens who are taking to the streets in their own defense, whether armed with their bare fists, pointy sticks, or what have you.

If only a couple of the worst offenders were properly shot (with all appropriate due process and justification, of course) methinks this little exercise by the thugs and looters would quickly peter out.
