Axelrod: This is a "Tea Party downgrade"

(CBS News)

Former White House adviser David Axelrod on Sunday pinned responsibility for the recent U.S. economic downgrade on the Tea Party movement, arguing that the group's political "brinksmanship" during debt ceiling negotiations "brought us to the brink of a default" -- and that, subsequently, "this is essentially a Tea Party downgrade."

In an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," Axelrod, currently a campaign strategist for President Obama, said the U.S. economic downgrade was "largely a political analysis" and that "there's a broad consensus that [the U.S.] is still the safest place to invest your money."

Nevertheless, he argued, the Tea Party was responsible for blocking a comprehensive deal that could have prevented such a downgrade.

"We can debate the strength of the analysis that they did, the history of S&P and so on," Axelrod told CBS' Bob Schieffer, of Standard & Poor's, the credit rating agency that downgraded the U.S. market from AAA to AA+ on Friday. "They made an egregious analytical error here but theirs was largely a political analysis... They want to see the kind of solution that the president has been fighting for... that will be balanced, that will include revenues, that will deal with some of our long-term issues."

"For months, the president was saying, let's get together, let's compromise," Axelrod continued. "We thought we had such an arrangement with the Speaker of the House... then he went back to his caucus; he had to yield to the most strident voices in his party. They played brinksmanship with the full faith and credit of the United States. This was the result in that."

David, poor boob, Axelrod. The cause of all this trouble is Democrat profligacy with public money and public debt, period. You are joined at the hip to the main exemplar of this profligacy. The Tea Party and the rest of the electorate that is in favor of fiscal sanity are going to throw your asses out of office come 2012, if not before.

The show trials for members of this ‘administration’ will be interesting, but they’ll also be too late.

He isn’t checking his email. Obama said last week that it was the fault of the Japanese Tsunami.

It is my humble opinion that the ‘Tea Party’ is the middle class. The producers, the salt of the earth of independent thinkers, and in a perverse way what Axlerod says is true. This administration the whole ‘regime’ has had its mission from day one of their formation the methodical step by step process of destroying the ‘middle class’.

And I am as disgusted by the so called Republican leadership as I am by the proud liberals. I believe Mich and John need to return to their states and pound sand.

WHERE does he get off???! It wasn't the Tea Party spending us out of existence - take a look in the mirror, Congress! The Tea Party is trying to STOP the spending so we wouldn't go into default. Axelrod is an absolute a-hole! How he can try to pin this on the Tea Party is really a stretch. Same goes for Kerry! Why doesn't someone come out and put them in their place? Oh, if only I were in that position . . . .!

“To cure its addiction to debts, the United States has to re-establish the common sense principle that one should live within its means,” it added.”

This coming from the Chinese government. Hey Acelrod and Kerry start yelling at your biggest investor!!!!

Isn’t it amazing that with all the stuff that has gone wrong since 01/20/09 not once was it Obama’s fault.

The Tea Party has no control over anything. Axelrod and Obama do. Guess who is really responsible.

S&P made their expectations quite clear to the United States Government, just as they would any other entity. The United State Government, specifically the Obama Administration failed. So the Administration propaganda is going to try to pin this on the Tea Party? Is S&P part of the Tea Party?
Let’s go back to the Russian Revolution. The Bolshevik regime stiffed its creditors. Will the Obama Administration eventually stiff the creditors of the USG? Just remember, the Administration stiffed the creditors of General Motors and Chrysler.
This may be tinfoil hat - This looks like a deliberate move to destroy the US economy.

Interesting how he used the same talking points as MoveOn. I suppose the Tea Party only has to pull out the S&P statement and ask him which entitlements should we cut.

That slimey nimrod...or is it asselrod?

Go read the April 2011 report by Standard & Poors. The document was a simple head's up warning. The downgrade press release on Friday is just the follow-up.

What did the worthless politicians decide to do? Nothing. They choose to play a game of chicken. The plain numbers on the debt and the growth of the economy are simply against the nation.

The USA is economic road-kill. Toast!
