What Units?

Looks like primarily Navy Seals.

31 killed, including 25 SEALs, in Afghanistan helicopter crash

A sad day for our country.

Ever since our military burned a bunch of Bibles so as not to offend the Muslims, things have been rapidly deteriorating in Afghanistan.

At that point I think we lost the mission and have effectively lost the war.

Can anyone tell me what exactly we are fighting FOR in that country?

This made me sick to my stomach—literally—when my wife told me about this at breakfast.

We live 45 minutes south of Dover AFB—this is where these heroes will be coming to the Dover mortuary. When we travel north we see the C-17s flying in and out of there, wondering what the inbounds have on board—more remains of American heroes.

But I need a basic question answered—can you fit 37 soldiers all kitted up in a Chinook? Usually when you read about these crashes, there are 14-16 killed. This almost sounds like two Chinooks were taken out.

I just wonder if all the “Secrets of the Bin Laden Raid” articles where Washington DC loose lip leakers compromised SEAL tactics and operations planning- led to the enemy’s success in targeting this helicopter?

“Special Forces” does not equal “special operations forces.”

Too bad there are almost zero reporters who get this.

For the SF families this is always very aggravating in situations like this.

7 Afghan commandos

And which relative of one of those men leaked the details of this attack?

I’d like to find out what nation gave these cavemen the clearly uber-sophisticated surface to air missile that suddenly was able to take out one of our Chinooks.

It was an RPG.

Our aircraft have a much better chance against an uber-sophisticated SAM.

31 Americans Killed Including 25 SEALs in Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan

..........."A total of 38 people were on board the Chinook helicopter when it crashed overnight in the eastern Afghan province of Wardak.

Initial reports indicate up to 25 Navy SEALs were on the aircraft at the time.

It was also carrying seven Afghan Special Forces troops, one interpreter, five member helicopter crew and one dog. "................

Very sad news. Prayers for their families.

Our aircraft have a much better chance against an uber-sophisticated SAM.

That is due to the fact that helicopters hover or are very slow compared to a fixed wing and the fact that the mark one eyeball set is a pretty good aiming device for close targets.

That said, it's apparent that tactics must change and/or a different mix of forces must be used.
