.LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — According to the federal government, two sisters in rural Kentucky do not exist.

The women weren't born in a hospital, never went to public school and only recently obtained birth certificates after they sued the state. Still, that's not enough for Raechel and Stephanie Schultz to land legitimate jobs. The sisters need Social Security numbers, so they have sued the federal government.

"No one has ever heard of anything like this before," said their attorney, Douglas Benge. "When the girls first came to see me, it's one of those things of, 'What do I do now?'"

Why didn’t their dimwitted parents apply for their children’s social security numbers? They should be suing their.

Lets see, that SSN comes with a portion of the national debt.

Maybe we should be suing to get rid of ours.

It may not be a hoax.

Out of a population of 310 million people, there are probably a few people who were born and raised off the grid.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why would any true conservative WANT a tracking number? A ponzi/Orwellian scheme from top to bottom.

The year that the IRS required you to put your children’s socialistic security numbers on your tax return over 2 million “children” disappeared.

If they don’t have SSNs do they have to pay taxes?

Possibly. I would have had an easier time believing it 40 years ago.

The people in Appalachia are so far out in the sticks that this is believable. I doubt that the parents even paid taxes. It’s a very poverty stricken area.

Why should their parents?

I never had a social security number until I was 16. My parents had nothing to do with me getting a social security number. It was between me and my bank and I never had to sue anyone. I opened a checking account and my bank got me my social security number for me(I had to provide a BC and I think my dad’s signature on something). The day before this I had applied for my first job and was denied because I didn’t have a SS number. I was told to open a checking account and the bank would get one for me. I already had a savings account but had used my dad’s SS number for that account. I remember I asked the employer if I could just use my dad’s SS number instead and he said no.

...unbelievable...

You're right.

In fact, social security numbers used to be extremely easy to get.

For example, one day in the early 1960's, my father (a lawyer) deposed some money in a savings account in a local bank. The account was jointly owned by himself and our family pet, a doberman named Fritz. The money drew interest, and the amount was reported to the government.

A few weeks later, dad received a letter from the IRS demanding that Fritz immediately get a social security card, and explain why he didn't already have one.

The local farmers loved that letter. It was posted on the cafe (and coffee stop) wall for years.

This is nonsense. Does the Social Security department not remember how it used to do things.

I didn’t have a SS# till my father died in 1979 when I was 4. They issued SS#’s to my brothers and me at that time. Then they started to do it at birth.

Geez, find an old manual and issue these girls numbers.
