Aaron Nieman is frustrated, after his pregnant wife's insulin and ice packs were confiscated by TSA screeners at Denver International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
The couple has traveled around the world with her supplies and have never encountered any troubles before. "It made me feel upset and made me feel somewhat helpless," he said.
His wife is traveling alone to a baby shower in Phoenix. She asked us not to use her name for fear of security and retaliation for speaking out.

My Father in law is a diabetic. He stopped flying because he just got sick of the extra rude attention and he wasn’t interested in risking his life because a TSA agent was an idiot.

Sorry, but this is a bipartisan monstrocity. TSA is a Bush creation. Nothing he did regarding the TSA while in office would make me believe he would make any more efforts to restrain these storm troopers than obama will.
I for one have read a few published stories in the past several months where the TSA has indeed retaliated against people in the past for daring to speak out about the abuses they have had to endear at the hands of some of the rouge TSA agents who apparently developed the God personality and decided that you were just lowly peasants in their eyes and act accordingly.

Ehh, I believe it was Bush that gave life to this monstrosity known by its deadly acronym, the TSA, otherwise as its come to be known by, the Totalitarian Submissive Administration.
Understood but for many that is not a viable option as the costs for that type of delivery is more than some can afford I would imagine. I could be wrong but I was told that the pen method is a good bit more pricey than the vial and needle method.
Here's my take on this particular situation: the story says she was pregnant. It might have been gestational diabetes, which normally only lasts the duration of the pregnancy. So being a temporarly insulin user, a) she may not have been aware of the proper procedures for carrying insulin; and b) may have been unaware of her rights as an insulin-dependent diabetic and how to respond.
I carry insulin, and what I do is this: I separate out my insulin pack from my carry-on prior to the screening; I announce to the screener that I am a diabetic, and present my insulin pack; the screener inspects the pack, and hands it back to me. I have yet to encounter a dumbass TSA screener who did not know this, but if I did, I would politely ask them to check with their supervisor. So far, this has worked for me, and I travel regularly.
You’re not wrong, it is much more expensive. The pens are extremely clever - genius, even - but are patented and still priced at monopoly levels.
Many health insurance plans have not only a flat co-pay but also a 10% or more coinsurance, and have price incentives for generic drugs, so people who are price-sensitive in these plans will opt for the vials instead.
Most diabetics use insulin pens these days. No prescription label on those. I've never had a problem getting them through at an airport.
It probably is more expensive but it would be a good option for traveling.
I would agree, if price isn't a problem. It is for me as I'm now retired and lived on a (barely) reasonable fixed income. I quit flying after the TSA was created and have no plans to ever fly again if I can help it so I'll stick (no pun intended) to the vial and needle method. In the process I'm rediscovering America from behind the wheel of my vehicle when I travel. A real bonus for me.

We rarely fly anymore, it is just too uncomfortable. Seeing the country in my Tahoe is much better. :)
As far as the insulin is concerned I thought we could take 3 oz. of liquid on the plane, what happened to that? Have you ever seen a container of insulin that big?

The TSA is escalating its campaign of intimidation. These "incidents" are designed to make a point.
The “Totally Stupid Agency” stikes again. Morons directed by morons and they expect a different outcome? Screeners were stupid before they were made “Government” so now it is guaranteed. Spent years traveling by air, it got so bad I quit the job to get away from them.
Now they are “progressing” to killing people in order to keep them safe.
