STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Spurred in part by an Advance editorial that criticized her, state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) today apologized for referring to Tea Party members as "the new mafia" on her personal Facebook page.
In a posting on her Facebook page, Ms. Savino said, when you use language that upsets people it muddies your message. So, if the term mafia is offensive to anyone, I offer my apology.
Ms. Savino said leaders should be able to admit when they are wrong.
As part of her mea culpa, Ms. Savino also posted a link to the critical Advance editorial, titled, No way for a leader to talk.
Ms. Savino used the word mafia Monday in linking to New York Times editorial critical of how Tea Party lawmakers in Congress acted during the debt-ceiling debate.

So far she is very lucky.
I also don’t think her apology was directed at Tea Party sympathizers.
I am sick of this nonsense coming from our fantasy “leaders”.
She doesn’t need to apologize, it’s not accepted by me.
She is unfit for the job.... she needs to resign.
Shove it bitch; it was a non-apology. I have more respect for the mafia criminals than any democrat criminal living or dead.

Yes, they are not the Mafia....they are La Cosa Nostra.
No... I would suggest that her apology is aimed a little more locally. She's afraid of the mafia. ;-)
“I offer my apology” is not the same thing as “I’m sorry” and I doubt very highly she is.
You don’t throw around the term ‘Mafia’ lightly.
They don’t take kindly to being publicized.
I’m sure she got a call from the Italian-American Anti-Defamation League.................
No way for a leader to talk.
This is another insult. These worthless POS legislators, republican and democrat, are not elected to be leaders, they are elected to represent the wishes of their constituents. That statement is more offensive than the mafia quote.

Diane... Honey... that’s no “apology”.
Isn’t it great that the evildoers are afraid of the Tea Party now? hehehe!
Diane Savino probably knows all about the Mafia. Her current boyfriend, Klein, is a partner in the law firm of Klein, Calderoni & Santucci, LLP.
It can only get worse if we dig deeper.
Klein actually found himself in a lawsuit AGAINST a 9/11 worker one of his partners had as a client ~ he, Klein, wanted a piece of the award!
It can only get worse if we dig deeper.
I couldn't find Diane's relationship to the Republican named Savino who ran against her current boyfriend.
Fur shur, these folks have surnames that departed from Naples but it looks like most of their relatives still back in Italy have phone numbers in Reggio de Calabria ~ the source of most of the Siciliano and Italiano mobsters in America.
A clue ~ for a variety of reasons, virtually ALL of the websites that include all the surnames of this crowd are IN ITALIAN, and not all that good either ~ kind of a regional dialect.
Having grown up next door to someone like this (who sometimes hired Johnny Cash to come with a band and play in his front yard) I really do think people should be careful about getting too close to them ~
It should be pretty clear by now that they save their harshest attacks on those they fear most, Palin etc. I notice that Mitt never takes flack because they know he is no threat.
These shyster Democrat party politicians know they are in the TEA Party's and the people's sights.
The Republican Party is also quivering in fear, and they should be. They just cant do a full frontal assault on their own base, but I bet they would like to.
Sen. Diane Savino
Vaffanculo, Diane. Oh, apologies if you are offended.
PS: Ever heard of Sicilian Alzheimers? You forget everything but the grudges.
I got banned by the Boston Herald Blog for calling Nancy Pulosi a “Mafia Princess”. Her father was the most corrupt mayor in Baltimore history and his “business” partners were Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lanskey. See what I’m sayin’?
You’da thunk a person names Savino from Staten Island would know that mafioso tend to be Democrats!!
But Ms. Savino said she can say what she wants on her private Facebook page, on which Santarpia is one of her “friends.”
“My Facebook, my opinion,” she said. “If you don’t like the raw, uncut Diane Savino, tune to my official Senate site.”
You’da thunk a person names Savino from Staten Island would know that mafioso tend to be Democrats!!

If you’re taking flack, you’re over the target.
