STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Spurred in part by an Advance editorial that criticized her, state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) today apologized for referring to Tea Party members as "the new mafia" on her personal Facebook page.
In a posting on her Facebook page, Ms. Savino said, “when you use language that upsets people it muddies your message. So, if the term mafia is offensive to anyone, I offer my apology.”
Ms. Savino said “leaders should be able to admit when they are wrong.”
As part of her mea culpa, Ms. Savino also posted a link to the critical Advance editorial, titled, “No way for a leader to talk.”
Ms. Savino used the word mafia Monday in linking to New York Times editorial critical of how Tea Party lawmakers in Congress acted during the debt-ceiling debate.

Put this State Senator’s comment with that of an “addiction specialist” today on MSNBC who diagnosed Tea Partiers as mentally ill and potentially violent. Liberals are losing control and so they can’t help themselves in showing how much they loathe the Tea Party.
So, the stupid bit** must have realized, somehow, that the tea party movement is comprised of millions of voters, it is not some fringe group they can turn the majority of Americans against.

I am not a member of any Tea Party, I am not an activist, I cannot be counted in that percentage of folks who self-identity with the Teas Party movement. But I am seething, will likely become more active, and am sympathetic to the Tea Party. And I suspect there are 10s of millions like me. I don’t think the left and the MSM can even imagine how many.
Well yes, Ms. Savino, abject fear does addle one's judgment.
