U.S. Muslims most likely to reject violence- Gallup

BEIRUT: U.S. Muslims are more likely to reject violence than Christian groups in the country, according to data released Thursday by the U.S.-based polling firm Gallup.

Over the course of interviews with 2,482 Americans, Gallup found that 78 percent of Muslims believe violence which kills civilians is never justified, whereas just 38 percent of Protestant Christians and 39 percent of Catholics agreed with the sentiment. Fifty-six percent of atheists answered similarly.

A rewording of the question led to responses that were more similar across the groups. When asked if it would be justified for "an individual person or a small group of persons to target and kill civilians," all groups had a significant majority opposed

Protestants and Catholics were 71 percent against. Muslims were still the biggest group opposed, at 89 percent, while 76 percent of atheists were opposed.

The yearlong survey set out to measure religious and non-religious attitudes toward violence 10 years after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, for which Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility.

The survey discovered that 92 percent of Muslims did not believe any Muslim in their community had sympathy toward Al-Qaeda terrorists, but just 56 percent of Protestants and 63 percent of Catholics said the same.

Attitudes toward Muslims have sunk in recent years. A poll conducted by Pew poll in August last year found that only 30 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Muslims.

I'd like to see a poll as to what group is most likely to lie to pollsters.

The Koran also says that Muslims can lie with impunity to “unbelievers” so I would read this poll with that in mind. Judge them by their actions, no by their words. If I remember correctly their silence after 9/11 was deafening until a few were shamed into making some tepid condemnations a few weeks later.

By all means, rely on “polls” to confirm Christians are more violent than muslims. Whatever you do, don't pay attention to actual acts of violence. And everyone knows how honest a muslim is when interviewed right?

What a stupid supposition. What Muslim is going to say that violence is warranted when they are the ones most being careful to want to look like they are peaceful? A muslim that says they are for violence against civilians is going to worry about being put on a watch list. Of course they are going to try to appear against it. Stupid, stupid, stupid people think this kind of survey means anything.

"Gallup found that 78 percent of Muslims believe violence which kills civilians is never justified...."

The Koran says it is OK to lie in the furtherance of their twisted f'd up religion. When thinking about these assh*les it is always good to remember the adage,"actions speak louder then words"

Muslims having been spreading their poison via the sword for 1,400 years. I believe that history carries more credibility an any contrived poll.

The poll results are not surprising since many muslims are liars too.
