RED WING, Minn – A black student is suing her former Minnesota high school for celebrating "Wednesday Wigger Day," where white students pretended to be black during homecoming week, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday.
Quera Pruitt, who graduated from Red Wing High School last year, filed the lawsuit last week, saying the "wigger" celebration caused her to be so depressed that she almost dropped out of school.
The slang word "wigger" is commonly used to refer to a white person who copies the mannerisms, language and fashions commonly associated with American black culture.
"It's offensive to black folks and, frankly, it's offensive to anyone," said Joshua Williams, Pruitt's lawyer.
Pruitt claims Wigger Day, also known as "Wangsta Day," was held between 2007 and 2009 and is claiming $75,000 in damages.
The school district, however, rejects the accusations outright

I have never before heard the term “wigger.” I was going to say that I cannot believe that a public school would tolerate this. However, public schools do all kinds of unbelievable things.

It sounds offensive to me. I can’t believe they’ve gotten away with it.
This is true.
But I would bet you dollars to donuts that the school has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is almost certainly a bunch of students being stupid. Is the school responsible for every stupid thing it's students do?
If they didn’t strut their Shiite so blatantly, nobody would think about mocking them.

A long time ago we had a “Maynard G. Krebbs” day, a form of organized adolescent rebellion.
Actually I’ve heArd high school kids use it here in Ga to describe white and Asian kids, almost exclusively male, who adopt the dress, mannerisms, speech and ‘culture’ of urban blacks. I.e droopy pants, bling, straight-brimmed hats, exaggerated and specific hand gestures, socially aggressive posturing. You get the idea.
But for the high school kids it is derisive towards the wanna-be, not the ‘genuine’ blacks.
When you erase context, it’s easier to find offense and chase monetary damages.
NO... it is the original thugs and their gansta attitudes and their murderous satanic ways that these white punks emulate... that are offensive to Western and or Judeo/Christian AMERICAN values.

And I can honestly tell you that nothing highlights the absurdity and emptiness of "black culture" more than seeing some white person attempting to emulate it.
I can see where the kids could easily turn this into a serious comedy on current culture and the PC media.

It seems to have been part of the homecoming week “celebrations.” As another poster said, public schools do the wierdest things.
I’d never heard the term before, and I wouldn’t have known what it meant without an explanation - but I don’t blame her for being offended. The school is only 3% black, btw.
