Parents defend Atlanta school caught up in scandal

Parents of students at an Atlanta public school where cheating was alleged to have occurred on a statewide test on Tuesday night defended their school and teachers at a town hall meeting.

“We’ve been extremely pleased with the instruction my children have received,” said Quinnie Cook-Richardson, one of several parents at the troubled West Manor Elementary School who spoke at the meeting.

Her son’s teacher had him reading within a year, she said, adding, “They are an example of what is right with Atlanta Public Schools.”

Cook-Richardson was among a parade of parents who defended a school where the principal has been asked to resign because of the scandal surrounding the 2009 Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests.

“This school is in pain,” said Sherida Ragland, the former Parent-Teacher Association president at West Manor. “There are 300 other parents who couldn’t make it [tonight] and they’re feeling the same way.”

You know, that is stereotypical...which we are not supposed to apply to any circumstance.

That’s why ever bumbling idiot, stumbling speaker, fat, food on the chin, loser, overpaid executive, loud talker, obnoxious neighbor, burglar or criminal is always shown on television as a white, Anglo Saxon male, nothing else.

If the teachers were so swell, why did they need to cheat?

“If the pubic schools are so great in Atlanta, why did the teachers need to cheat?”

Exactly.

In Alabama, when they started implementing a graduation exam in the 80’s, it was a breeze, but it got incrementally harder over the next 12 years. Supposedly by the end of those years, the teaching was to have changed so students were better prepared for the test at the desired standards, but the schools really did nothing different. By the end of the 12, a large percentage of the students (white and black) did not pass it and instead of a diplomas, they got a certificates of attendance. I imagine lots of cheating going on there as well, but I’ve not heard of any yet. Testing is not a bad thing, but as a sole measure of what is going on, it is lacking.

These people are of a completely alien culture that is downright hostile and often violent toward Western civilization.

They've been taught to hate this country to the extent that I think it'll be difficult to recover for many, many years as long as they submit to the slave owners of the democratic party. During the WWII, the illegitimate rate in the Negro community was 7%, lower even than that of the Caucasian community.

Today it's over 75% and climbing, and they're ruthlessly slaughtering the children in abortuaries or condemning the kids to the one-parent-mostly-female "family" where the government (Obambi) becomes the "male" person in their household.

And the horrible thing about all this is how the Republican Party has allowed these criminal politicians to turn Lincoln into a democrat and make out that all Republicans are slave owners and Jim Crows.

Quinnie Cook-Richardson, ...spoke at the meeting.
Her son’s teacher had him reading within a year, she said, adding, “They are an example of what is right with Atlanta Public Schools.”
Not bad Quinnie , except he's 16 and in the 7th Grade!

"Series', our Grandson was reading before he went to Kindergarten. And the only problem he had was with four syllable words. Now that Quinnie is an example of what a PARENT does for her children, help them learn and not wait on the gubmint to teach your spawn. Who by the way -- still have to CHEAT in order to pass a Standards Test. So YOU and your ilk are what is WRONG with Atlanta and its Public Schools.

Now go away and shut up.

Sadly, we’re ALL right.

But don’t expect clowns like Al Sharpton or the “Obama” to address this.

I was very surprised to read a parent survey taken a few years ago taken in a failing school. The demographics were white, black, and Latino. Although the school was failing, all parents across all ethnicity pretty much said the same thing - they were pleased with the performance of their students and schools.
I was shocked and very disappointed - how will our schools improve if the parents don’t clamor for it? I came to the conclusion then that it’s the result of PR.
It looks like a public school and it holds class sessions punctually. It has school dances and sporting events. It has honor students and valedictorians, just like adequately performing schools. Administrators tell them the same things that administrators tell parents at other schools. Their students are getting good grades and although the kids are complaining about teachers they don’t like and having to do homework, they are usually keeping up in their studies - this has given parents the impression that students are receiving a proper education. Aside from state’s criterion referenced tests (where the goal posts are not moved, tests are not scored on the bell curve) the rest of the year parents, teachers and students all are saturated in the promoted belief that they are the brightest, finest, and receiving a good education. There is an unwillingness to release the 95% impression generated by the echo chamber (great school and excellent students) to take hold of criterion referenced reality (your kid can’t do what other kids her age can do in math, English, science etc.)

Some of the teachers play victim cards throughout the year (with the few, unappreciated achievers working themselves into the ground trying to raise underprepared students up to perform AT LEAST near the grade level) and show parents how hard they work to provide ‘the finest education’ despite the ‘miniscule pay’ and all that overtime. But this was taking place in an epic landscape of academic failure - leaving the school’s students catastrophically unprepared for life after high school with minority students a few more grade levels behind white students who were also a few grade levels behind other schools in other states. So upon graduation - the students will not thrive although the white students may do marginally better and overall, both parents and students don’t know why they can’t find a job or decent wages- but the Sharpton race hustlers will tell the minorities it’s discrimination.
