The debt ceiling deal will pass the Senate early this afternoon. No suspense there. But the vote will be worth watching for another reason: Three Republican Senate sources tell TWS that senators who vote against the deal will be ineligible to serve on the so-called supercommittee for deficit reduction that the legislation creates.
While theres certain logic to such a policy, it could be self-defeating. Excluding those who vote against the debt deal will ensure that some of the most fiscally conservative members of the Senate Republican caucus, including most of its freshmen, will be reading about the committees activities in the newspaper rather than guiding its decisions. Among those who have already declared their opposition to the deal: libertarian-leaning senators Mike Lee and Rand Paul; Jim DeMint, the aggressive fiscal hawk from South Carolina; conservative reformers Ron Johnson from Wisconsin and Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania; the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee, Jeff Sessions; and Floridas Marco Rubio, already one of the highest-profile conservatives in Congress.

UPDATE - McConnell spokesman Don Stewart: "The story is wrong. There is no requirement to vote for the bill. Period." Phew. One element of my qualified, tepid support for this flawed deal was a belief that strong fiscal conservatives would comprise the GOP's contingent on the joint special committee. If Hayes' initial sources had been correct, the compromise would have instantly become appreciably worse, and many conservatives would have rightly felt betrayed.
Dingy Harry strikes again.
We WILL remember all of this BS in Nov 2012. We will KILL the current GOP and make ANOTHER party(Remember the WHIGS). The current GOP IS DEAD TO ME!

Are you signing on crew, Cap’n?
The fix is in.
Taxes will skyrocket.
I feel sick.
I’m with you on that. I said the same thing yesterday. I’m tired of the GOP establishment selling us down the river. I’m done with them for good. They haven’t got any money from me in almost 3 years and they will NEVER get another penny. This was the last straw. No more chances. Done. Period.
What an inflammatory and blatantly false headline. Gotta love pundits - just make something up and print it. Jeesh.
call the senate and the house.
if they ban tea party memebers from the committee, we will activly primary them.
NO MORE COUNTRY CLUB DC.
Excerpts:
"The creation of a 12 person elitist panel of lawmakers is absurd and is just meant to fast track more awful legislation through the Washington meat grinder."
"Legislation approved by the Super Congress -- which some on Capitol Hill are calling the "super committee" -- would then be fast-tracked through both chambers, where it couldn't be amended by simple, regular lawmakers, who'd have the ability only to cast an up or down vote. With the weight of both leaderships behind it, a product originated by the Super Congress would have a strong chance of moving through the little Congress and quickly becoming law. A Super Congress would be less accountable than the system that exists today, and would find it easier to strip the public of popular benefits. Negotiators are currently considering cutting the mortgage deduction and tax credits for retirement savings, for instance, extremely popular policies that would be difficult to slice up using the traditional legislative process."
Second, it was you and your ilk who thought the Tea Party were being unreasonable and should just give the liberal socialist what they want until the GOP could win the next election!
Enjoy the final nail in the coffin of what we used to know as the United States of America!
You all played a role in her demise, every time you reported the debt limit has to be raised to prevent a default! Every American in their right mind knew that this Country could not default if the debt limit was not raised, but, you and your ilk continued to misreport the country was heading for a default and the Tea Party would be responsible for the defeat of the GOP next year if they did not cave!
We are not going to forget who was instrumental in the demise of this Nation!
Not every American is as stupid as you would like to think they are!Once again, it is the American people who have been played, screwed, and beaten into submission by the GOP elitist, liberal socialist, and it's the Country at large who will pay a very big price for it!
If these leaders do allow tax increases heading into an election year, that is essentially political suicide for them as party leaders and for the party as a whole. They need to be summarily warned by all of us in the base today.
So how's that "save the country and our freedoms" bill working out for you all?
Regards,
J. Galt
Until it's done...

It would still not fly. Think it through: only 12 States at the most will get partial representation, 38 States will get -NO- direct representation in the Royal Congress. The odds of your local representative being in this Royal Congress are 3 in 435. The odds of either of your senators being appointed to the Royal Congress are 1 in 100. This will also seal in perpetuity the Republican and Democrat monopoly on power, because no independent or third party would EVER be appointed to the Royal Congress.
This is institutionalized taxation without representation. A less extreme form was the whole reason for our secession from England.
It is not just a matter of fighting him on taxes. Blocked in the effort to redistribute wealth through the tax system, the Keynesians will simply destroy it by continuing to debase the currency. The result will be confiscation via even (seemingly) low Capital Gains tax rates, and by cheapening the value of all accounts receivable. (It is very hard to succeed in business, if someone keeps devaluing your accounts receivable.)
The cut in Federal Spending has to be severe, or it won't accomplish what needs to be accomplished.
For a realistic view of what Keynesian economics are all about: Economics Of A Sociopath. To understand the underlying monetary issues: Medium of Exchange.
Americans have been put on notice--repeatedly put on notice--that Obama is a demagogue who hates American high achievers. His rhetoric, throughout his career, has demonized such. There is no excuse for not recognizing the problem, and fighting back.
