The latest news from Egypt, is that former President Mubarak will be put on trial, for ordering the shooting of demonstrators. If he is found guilty, he will be executed. This was one of the demands that was made by the demonstrators at Tahrir Square.
A news story on the coming trial: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle-east/mubarak-trial-a-decisive-moment-for-egypt/2011/08/01/gIQAfYCNpI_story.html
Do you think he will be executed like Saddam Hussein?
Some analysts speculate that the Muslim radicals want to execute Mubarak, because he was a friend of America and Israel. This will send a message to future leaders, to be anti-American and anti-Israel, if they want to avoid prosecution in the future.
Given that America supported the hanging of Saddam Hussein, it will be very hard to stop Egyptians from executing Mubarak.
Mubarak = Pinochet? Why or why not?
Pinochet was a great man, I don’t know if Mubarak quite measures up to that.
I don’t think so.
Saddam was a long time enemy to the US while Mubarak until recently was an ally.
But more than that, Qaddafi has NATO by the balls and the execution would give an excuse (to the world) on why Qaddafi keeps resisting rather than leave power.
That is why the NATO powers will apply pressure to keep Mubarak from being executed.
Not arguing here, but “great”?
Like in a Ronald Reaga/Margaret Thatcher “great”?
(I wasn’t born yet when Pinochet initially did his thing)
Sounds like he was on his last legs no matter what...But since when did that stop Muzzies??
Chile today is the most prosperous country in South America, thanks to Pinochet. He saved the country from becoming a socialist Hell. To me, that is greatness.
Am I the only one to long for the good old Mubarak days? Stability and reliability was fine with me.
Mubarak is not going on trial. This guy will check out before that happens. His health is Pretty bad.
Wouldn’t they have to wake him up first?
Answer: Probably.
Comment: It is rare for a former leader to survive a coup. We will be treated to an increasing number of articles painting him as a devil incarnate eating two year old children and beating puppies; etc. etc. etc.
Too bad after Sadat’s assassination, they should have done a much better job cleaning house such as immediately executing anyone who is in the Muslim Brotherhood and permanently ban it as well.
Great points! Understood. Thank you.
The media portrays him as a Satan though. But they’re mostly Marxists, so what would you expect?
This will be accomplished by getting the US to unlawfully (according to our own Western Law) murder opponents of Terrorist Islam, especially those who have been friends of or loyal to the United States.
This has already been accomplished with NATO (Serbia-Kosovo, ongoing in Libya and Syria), and The Won intends to incriminate America in the same manner.
There is no one on the planet that is not a Muslim or a Marxist that would prudently trust America now.
It’s a strange world we live in today. But elections have consequences and we have voted in the International Socialists, and they have joined hands with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Thanks to Pinochet we now have fresh fruit available in the winter at a cost less than home grown in season. If Cuba were to adopt Pinochet’s philosophy, you would have good tomatoes to eat in the off season and the Cubans would be prosperous.
Excellent points!!!
