Following her emotional return to the House of Representatives last night to vote in support of the debt deal, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords announced on The Early Show this morning that she will run for re-election in Arizona. The show promptly tweeted the news.

Explaining her vote last night, Giffords said in a statement "I had to be here for this vote. I could not take the chance that my absence could crash our economy."

Yeah, her vote was the difference.

Otherwise, the vote would have been 268 yes, 161 no and it wouldn’t have passed...or would it? Which of us has brain damage?

She won by 1% last time. I’ll do my best to see this witch defeated in 2012!

One of those "feel good" stories the media loves to dwell on, but take a good look at her record and don't give her a sympathy vote!

Take Back AMERICA! Restore The Constituion!
FUBO GTFO 2012 !

AH!

Did not know that.
So the the suspicions the comment came from pelosi could be correct.
It sounds very much like something she’d say.

I knew that was where this was going. Hollyweird needed a big ending for their version. Gaby saves the world from another depression. oh boy.

“Giffords is a relative moderate and much less liberal than Arizona’s other Democratic representatives.”

Giffords votes in any way Pelosi tells her to. She is a democrat first, and a representative of a right leaning district second. Given that she barely won in 2010, she gets a kitchen pass more often than most democrats, but Gabby is ALWAYS ready to sacrifice her district for liberalism.

Sorry, but I remember picketing her office to try to get her to discuss health care. It took months to force her to hold a town meeting, and then she just regurgitated the Obama/Pelosi talking points!

She should return her pay for all the days she wasn’t at work. She should have been replaced when it was clear she couldn’t do her job.

Gabby Giffords was no blue dog moderate. You are right that she was always available for a Pelosi vote on liberal legislation.

Her appearance on the clip I saw showed a very disabled sadly ill woman. Her physical gestures showed poor proprioceptive control. I can't imagine the status of her cognitive abilities.

It’s the same old San Fran Nan trick the dims played with Obamacare. ‘You have to pass it to know whats in it’. That sure worked out great for the nation (heavy sarc intended).

Good points but I believe in the end it will work against the party’s image and foster an image of them as desperate to win at any cost, something we know is true but many are not yet aware of as yet.

I also live in her district, and AZ-8 is NOT extremely liberal. Gabby won 138,280 (48.76%) to 134,124 (47.30%).

There was talk of her running for the Senate to replace Kyl when he retires next year. I wonder if that is still an option.

” If she truly believed in having her constituents represented in Congress, she would have stepped aside while she recovered.
As it stands her district has not really had representation since her shooting. Now she parachutes in for her Party and then parachutes back out back to rehab. What it shows is her “service” is all about her and her ambitions. This is nothing to be celebrated.”

DING DING DING!!!!!!! Winner winner!

That was vry well said & Im glad someone shares what I’ve been saying for months. If she really cared about her constituents, she would have stepped down - same with Ted Kennedy & Robert C Byrd. But these egomaniacs held their seats throughout their illnesses. Disgusting.

There should be no argument that her brain injury is likely to have created an impairment of her higher order neurological functioning. So, it is probable to conclude, that her intellectual capabilities have been seriously diminished. Because of this change, constituents must demand an objective assessment of her intelligence post injury. This could include neuro-psychiatric assessment, intelligence testing. At least a high profile debate is in order. If she had been in almost every profession requiring skill (physician/surgeon, airline pilot, ship captain) this would be a routine requirement.
We can no longer tolerate shielding the mental capacities of public officials’. We have 3 famous cases in our history: Wilson, FDR, and JFK. Wilson had a stroke with its obvious attendant impairments, FDR had cardiomyopathy and TIAs (mini-strokes) which likely was an impediment to negotiations at Yalta, and JFK was dependent on mind altering opioids and tranquilizers because of chronic back pain.
