“They promised to do something about Obamacare. Have they repealed or even attempted to defund Obamacare?”
Yes, they did try, and because we don’t have the votes, it got nowhere. Geez, what is wrong with the brains of some Freepers? WE DON’T HAVE THE VOTES!!!!!!! Comprende?
You expect miracles where there aren’t any. And drag the debt limit crisis out endlessly? Let’s say for just a few more weeks. The markets would go totally negative, we would be downgraded by Moody and S&P’s, and to what end? And the damage to our credit would mean we would incur millions more in debt added on top of what we currently have. The outcome would be the same anyway three weeks later or even later than that, as WE DON’T HAVE THE VOTES.
Geez, what thick heads one runs into, incapable of understanding the obvious. Dragging this out would just damage the Pub Party further, and make winning in 2012 that much harder. This is what must happen. We must win in 2012, not fight a war that we can’t win right now. I just don’t understand how anyone can deny the obvious, unless they are running on pure emotion, and no rationale.
You said “WE DONT HAVE THE VOTES.”
I say WE DON’T HAVE THE MONEY BONER JUST HANDED OBAMA. Geez, what thick heads one runs into, incapable of understanding the obvious.
When exactly was any vote to defund any portion of Obamacare? I must have missed it. The House has the power of the purse. The republicans do control the House. I expect them to use that power but they won’t. They could start defunding protions of it, but they do not. Why? Because they are just as much into big government as the other party is. Country club republicans and the democrats are pretty much two sides of the same coing.
Wow. Could you be a more condescending snob? For a second there I thought you were a liberal.
Unfortunately, many people don't understand the principle of balance of power.
When Obama said in 2009 I won he wasn't kidding - he had the super-majority he needed to finish what Clintons didn't accomplish because they didn't have the super-majority. He sacrificed Congress but it may actually help him in his reelection campaign and he did advance his / Democrats agenda.
Just like the Arab Spring running on emotions, people in Egypt (and other countries) who were so happy to see their tyrant, now are not happy what they got and have to grapple with the results of their emotions - the Arab Summer just as emotional but not a happy time.
Rationally, GOP did succeed in changing the direction and focus of the discussion about the government spending and won the admission from the Democrats that [some of] the runaway spending must be cut... In the absence of perfect (whatever that is, subjectively) it's a good prologue to the 2012 national and states campaigns.
They have the votes to defund whatever they want.
