PESHAWAR: August 1, 2011, Most of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) of different banks in the City and cantt area were stand either out of order or without sufficient cash on public holidays and weekends.
According to a survey, over 70 per cent customers using ATMs on Sunday are disappointed by the service despite the fact that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed all commercial banks to ensure continuous and smooth functioning of ATMs during holidays.
The inconveniences associated with non-functioning ATMs causes a great deal of stress to consumers, who have to travel from one end to another, searching for functioning ATMs to conduct transactions.
Most of the ATMs simply flashed the dismal text: "Sorry for any inconvenience". Others that did not display this message accepted the visa cards and churned out the receipts but, alas, without coughing up any cash. The worried card users had no other way out except shout at the gun-wielding, computer-illiterate security guard. It is high time that the State Bank conducted a probe into why the ATM devices developed a collective virus
Ramazan around the corner and the month has almost concluded, customers usually rush towards ATMs in a bid to get quick cash for shopping.
Ahmed Nehar , a bank customer, said he was upset and angry when he found fourth ATM out of cash on the GT road Another Irshad said he try six different machines from different banks but none of them worked. Customers usually make withdrawals from other banks by paying additional charges of Rs15 per transaction.
"The situation gets worse before Eid when almost all of the ATMs go out of order due to heavy withdrawal by customers for Eid shopping," said Rehman Ali . These dysfunctional ATMs do not promote interest in banking as it makes it unwise for people to keep their money with bank, if after all they will not be able to access it when they are in dire need of it. It also makes the main purpose of installing ATMs by banks which is to make banking easier for customers all the time.

It happens occasionally around here on week ends and I’m not in Pakistan.
Pakistan has ATMs?
This is especially critical in Peshawar where the people will have more in relation with their Pathani relatives across the border.
It is about time to eliminate the Durand line and return the NWFP to Afghanistan. What do you think? Does that make sense?
its routine now , because no govt depatment take action ,
yeh.. thanks God... hahahah
may be but i am not sure , but the people of our province want peace , stablity and yet we dont know when its will come , but the sitution , ........
I think some of the problems are because the Pathans are artificially divided.
