Democrats' debt-ceiling bill failed to clear a key Senate hurdle Sunday afternoon, putting the onus on bipartisan negotiators to come up with an alternative plan with just two days to go until the Treasury runs out of ways to pay all of America's bills.
The vote on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's plan was expected to fail. Sixty votes were required to advance the proposal, and it fell far short in a 50-49 roll call.
The focus now turns almost exclusively to the latest round of talks being conducted among White House officials and Senate leaders. After disagreeing about the status of those negotiations the day before, Senate leaders indicated Sunday that they were making good progress on the new proposal.

50-49? He couldn’t even hold his party together?
He just keeps on pushing his party....Will they wise up??
Apparently not! LOL!
Ah. CCB. Which raises the debt ceiling $2.4 TRILLION dollars.
Why not? They all get the main thing they’ve been after right along: the authority to borrow and spend another couple of trillion dollars.
He has 53 rat votes but only 50 stayed with him. He lost 3 votes after he insisted on reading some cowboy poetry in his caucus meeting.
Just take the raising of the debt ceiling out of it and VOILA!
Anybody got a link to the vote count in Senate.
RINO traitor Scott Brown voted for this treasonous bill. What a lowlife scumbag!!
Never fails with these clowns does it?
They couldn't mop a kitchen floor and manage it properly to have time to spare at the end of the job.
But that is its whole point. If you took that out all you would be left with is vapor.
When the F**K is someone going to point out to the sheeple that the debt ceiling hike will be used immediately and that anything other than savings/cuts, etc. before the end of 2011 are the only thing that can offset it? Since any future congress does NOT have to abide by the 2, 5, 10, 15, 88, 150 year “savings” that these assclowns use to fool the people?
Perhaps he actually hesitated and determined that he couldn't afford the poetry at this time?
They really are pathetic aren't they?
The CBS news reporter on the hour just said “WE” got s majority of votes but not 60” (Bob Toth?)
CBS not even trying, eh
A Repubic is a Repubic, is a Repubic.
"To say that our government is simply spending more than it takes in is an understatement when it comes to the out-of-control spending weve experienced under President Obama; what hes doing is dangerous. He has spent about $12.2 Trillion in just 3 years; thats $5.15 Trillion more than the approximate $7.05 Trillion that was given to him by taxpayers."
"Lets look at it another way
It took roughly 220 years for our nation to accumulate $5.181 Trillion in debt which occurred in 1996. From 1996 to the end of 2008 (12 years), another $4.473 Trillion was added to our national debt, which is why we screamed for Bush to stop spending. Obama is adding $5.15 Trillion in just 3 years. What hes doing is dangerous. So, if youre not screaming for Obama to stop spending, why not?"
Scott Brown called Howie Carr’s show on Friday, and I had to turn it off or hurl. SB doesn’t even sound like a RINO anymore; he sounds like a full on Dem. He was prattling smarmily on about how none of the good, noble leaders of either party wanted the US to default and lose AAA, etc. So they had to work together, without regard to party label [he actually said that], to quickly avert this looming disaster. It was like, ‘Don’t worry distressed damsel voters, your brave, gallant white knight congress critters will save you!’.
I wanted to puke. These pols just cannot be this stupid. The solution to a sea of red ink is not another sea of red ink. Yet to hear them talk, that is the ONLY solution.
I have to curtail this post. If I keep going, I’ll say something intemperate.
Before OBAMA has to choose WHAT gets paid for, using the finite funds available to him -- something EVERY Freeper has to do every month.
If the day of reckoning comes, every Repub and every TEA party activist should not let people forget, the choices are Obama's, and he has no place to hide from responsibility.
